Utah theater abruptly cancels 'Brokeback Mountain' from their showings, as the claims are because the movie is too controversial. While the manager of the megaplex refuses to comment on their reasonings why, the president of the conservative Utah Eagle Forum says "not showing the film set an example for the people of Utah" and that it "tells the young people especially that maybe there is something wrong with this show."

This is majorly disappointing. If Brokeback Mountain isn't your cup of tea, than by all means don't see it in theaters. However, taking that priviledge away from folks that may or definitely want to see it is uncalled for. Unfortunately, that's the world we live in. For shame, you he chusheng zajiao de zanghuo!

And it's also disheartening because it's not being shown in any of the cinemas around my area; I'll have to travel miles to the closest theater that will have BBM showing. It's a shame, really.

* He chusheng zajiao de zanghuo translates to: "filthy fornicators of livestock" in Mandarin Chinese.

I had to go four towns over to see it, but it wasn't a big deal. The theater was still under half an hour drive. It doesn't seem fair that so few theaters are playing it. It eliminates the option for a lot of people. And considering how much award buzz there is surrounding the movie, it is sort of surprising. Even though I ended up finding the movie fairly disappointing after reading about how perfect it was on LJ, the option should still always be available for people to get to see for themselves.
