An addendum to my review of The Last Of Us, I wanted to share some things for those who watched the first season and are unfamiliar with the game and are curious to see where this lovely story originates from. At first I just wanted to share the cinematics of the game itself, a good way of seeing the game without playing it, but then I realized there were some other goodies that most may not know about, even if you have played the game and don't really venture beyond that. This will only feature things from the first game, there may be little bits of TLOU2 featured in one thing but I made sure that it's entirely spoiler-free from anything in relation to that story's plot. Otherwise, this will remain entirely focused on the first game to coincide with the first season of the show.

** There's been compilations of the cinematic cutscenes from the game on YouTube for anyone who hasn't played it but wants to see the story. This compilation in particular is my favorite since it features both cutscenes and story elements from the gameplay, giving a bit more of those character moments one encounters when playing. Yes, the whole thing is six hours long, however it's definitely worth it if you have the time to spare, especially if you've just watched the show and want to compare and contrast the story being told from two separate mediums.

Additionally, there's also The Last Of Us: Left Behind cinematic story, since this was the DLC and not included in the main game but still is an important element to the story, as this was the entirety of the seventh episode of the show, appropriately titled "Left Behind". Ashley Johnson won a BAFTA for the DLC in 2015.

** Listen to the game soundtrack, done beautifully by Gustavo Santaolalla who returned for the television series.

** I posted this in my review, but in terms of the opening credits: the 2013 game version vs. the 2023 HBO version.

** Ashley and Troy talking about the difficulty on the iconic bedroom confrontation scene between Ellie and Joel. This is considered one of the best emotional points for the characters and even just from watching the motion capture performance you can see how much they put into it. Knowing that Ashley improvised that one little moment where everything just fell into place for them when performing it was so pivotal to that scene and those characters that it transcended into the HBO show is absolutely phenomenal. It's one of the reasons why game fans were absolutely delighted by the scene when it appeared, while a little different it was still the scene, and imho they did it justice.

** The Last Of Us: One Night Live was a special event celebrating the game where the voice actors did a live read, reenacting specific scenes from the game, pretty much like a stage play. (Note: there was a special ending exclusive to only the live audience, nothing was filmed but there were some photos taken from from it.)

** There is a small feature where we see an "alternate" end of the hospital scene, which is just the actors doing an alternate take where they are singing their dialogue. It's hilarious, but it's also just remarkable with how it was such a "yes and" situation, as Neil Druckmann explains in the video. This little musical bit was also included in the One Night Live, as well, just for funsies.

** It's worth noting that pretty much the entire cast of Critical Role has been involved with The Last Of Us, and someone posted a compilation of their voice work in both games. (There are no major spoilers for TLOU2, from what I can tell, it's just small random scenes to show what voices they provided.)

Obviously there's more out there, but I figured this was a good starting point. I just really love this game, I love this story, I love the people involved, and I'm really loving all the newcomers who are falling in love with the story through the show, going on this amazing emotional journey similarly to the rest of us did ten years ago. ❤
