++ NYCC happened and some things were announced, two in particular that pertain to my interests specifically. First is that the final season of The Expanse will only be six episodes instead of ten, which I'll admit part of me is a bit saddened by this however I trust their decision on doing this and I hope that the last six episodes of the series will be a worthwhile wild ride in concluding the story. Secondly, Critical Role's panel not only had them discuss a bit about The Legend of Vox Machina with a little bit of a sneak peek in footage, but we now know that it'll be released in February of 2022! I'm super excited because this is what I've been really looking forward to seeing. I love Campaign One, and although I know what happens just seeing the events unfold in animation is going to be amazing. This will, undoubtedly, also bring some newcomers since I'm sure people will be curious enough to check it out, whether they are aware of Critical Role or not.

++ The trailer for the Scream (2022) film has been released, and I'm cautiously optimistic about it. There were initial rumors about this being a complete remake of the franchise, but this was toted around first as essentially being Scream 5, the fifth installment of the franchise following the events of Scream 4 (although the lack of Hayden Panettiere in the cast makes the possibility of the return of Kirby less likely which is saddening for me, personally). This is going to be the first of the Scream franchise that is without Wes Craven, so I'm a little nervous on how things are going to be done, though hopefully it'll remain true to spirit since I doubt the cast would've returned for it if it wasn't.

++ There's been a lot of announcements and things from the past returning in some form or another, like CSI has returned, the original Law & Order is said to be returning after ending years ago, there's going to be a remake of Babylon 5 for the CW, a sequel series to That 70s Show is going to happen.....I know that nostalgia is one hell of a drug, but we've been living in a era of entertainment where it's so oversaturated with these remakes and reboots and such for far too long that it's like, are all of these necessary? I'm just so bored.

Excited for The Legend of Vox Machina! It looks good and it'll be great seeing the story visualized.

I'm pretty indifferent to reboots/remakes at this point, like it's just what Hollywood is doing now. However, I'm a huge Babylon 5 nerd and this was one piece of news that really made me upset. Not sure if you're familiar with it or not, so I won't rant (lol), but I just can't imagine a remake.

Originality is dead in Hollywood. No one wants to do anything original because it's deemed too risky. Sigh.

I felt like I heard of less NYCC news than usual. Maybe io9 covered it less, or maybe it's just the result of Covid?

I am the same. I had no idea that they are going to make another movie of the franchise. And I can watch the movies over and over again, it's so entertaining.

I knew since the idea was being tossed around some while ago and I remember my initial feeling of apprehension, since this would be without Wes Craven and this can easily be fucked up if someone doesn't have the right intention behind making it. I know that fans have varying opinions of the franchise outside of the first movie, but I have enjoyed all four movies and the level of meta they bring, not to mention its own ongoing lore. I can only hope this one continues with it.

Could be the result of the pandemic, although I'll be honest I've just not been that enthused with anything new coming out from Western media lately, so if anything more was announced during NYCC I just didn't really pay attention.

I've never watched Babylon 5 but I know of it, and having it be rebooted is just the oddest thing ever, and the fact that it'll be on the CW of all places, so chances of it being somewhat decent are automatically out the window.

Originality is dead in Hollywood. No one wants to do anything original because it's deemed too risky. Sigh.

Yeah, unfortunately. If it's not an already known IP with a built-in fanbase to leech off of, the industry just doesn't want to take the risk. It's been that way for a long time, and unless something drastically changes it'll sadly continue down this particular route. While I know that I can just ignore the reboots/remakes, and I do trust me, it's just that the entire entertainment industry, at least when it comes to Western media, is just oversaturated with them that it's impossible to completely ignore it completely. Certain original content is ignored or cancelled because of this, too, which is really disappointing and infuriating.

I'm also bored of all the remakes...and will very likely not be checking most of them out.

I feel the same about the Expanse announcement. Then again, the show has done a great job so far with how they adapted the books. I'm sure that they'll be able to do just as well in fewer episodes.

And happy birthday!

Yeah, remakes are just not good the majority of the time anyway, and are just an unnecessary waste of time and money. I do ignore them for the most part, but I hate that it's dominated every aspect of the entertainment industry. Same with superhero franchises, it's good in moderation, but the market is so oversaturated with it that I'm just tired and bored. :/

Yeah, I know that they'll do a good job and make it worth our while.

And thank you! :) ♥

DC just had its own event, so that's probably why there was not much left for Comic Con.

I didn't realize a new Scream movie was coming but I'm so excited for it! I hope it's fun and scary.

Agree though that we seem to only be remaking things and not doing a lot of new things. I like a good nostalgia buzz but I really enjoy seeing new things as well. I'm okay with some nostalgia but when it's all nostalgia it starts to feel like there's no good ideas anymore.
