++ I've been trying to write up my review of season five of The Expanse, but figuring out how to articulate my thoughts and feelings has become a difficult task as it bounces around from becoming either far too long and repetitive or just me going "fifth season was amazing....the best season so far....phenomenal performances....", which is, y'know, all true, but I want to be more cohesive than that. Still working on it.

++ I know I've groused about the trend the entertainment industry has with banking on nostalgia, the more reboots/remakes/revivals that are announced the more my eyes roll further back into my head as I sigh in near defeat, and that hasn't changed. With that being said, however, when I heard that they were doing The Mighty Ducks television series on Disney+ with bringing back Emilio Estevez as Gordon Bombay, my childhood heart was like...."oh? tell me more please." Listen, Emilio Estevez was one of my first childhood celebrity crushes, right after Harrison Ford, and The Mighty Ducks was a huge part of the reason why (D2: The Mighty Ducks is a personal favorite, simply because his look in it was hot it was the hair okay). Is this another banking of nostalgia moment? Yeah, of course it is, and yeah I'm ashamed by looking forward to seeing it, but I don't care.

++ Since I've become a bit more interested in Asian dramas lately, one that I've come across that I've seen people I follow talking about has been Mr. Queen, a Kdrama that is an adaptation of a Chinese novel (which also had a Chinese web series adaptation, that was censored in China), and it just recently concluded. Once I learned of its premise, immediately I was like, oh yes this is my jam. Essentially, a modern guy is transported into the past in the body of a queen, and alongside the politics and plot stuff there is the concept of gender identity and bisexuality/questioning of sexuality. Needless to say, I became intrigued and sold on this alone. I have yet to see it, but I've seen gifsets and it looks hilarious (the "gay panic" moments and physical comedy) and also heartwarming (the tenderness and romantic angle). I'll eventually get to it, along with the other Asian dramas I have on my list to watch.

If you just post your entire review is "OMG DOMINIQUE TIPPER OMG" with infinite exclamation points, I would say that covers it all (right now, that is as articulate as I can get. I love the Adventures of Amos and Peaches and everyone else's journey...but when I think of Season 5, I'm going to think of Naomi)

I thought there are people out there who are much better at expressing their opinion, so I pretty much left it at S5 was awesome. The cast was amazing. Dominique blew me away.

I got the last few books for my birthday this month (I had already had the first three).

This revival seems more earned than others.

Interesting premise! Thanks for mentioning these Asian dramas I wouldn't hear about otherwise.

lol, yeah that's essentially what happened. I went overboard with talking about her arc this season, which I'm sure would be appreciated but I felt like I was just unnecessarily over-explaining what happened instead of giving my own thoughts which basically do just boil down to that exactly, just exclamation points. I'm just trying to organize my thoughts, because I have a lot of them after this season and with certain characters, Naomi included, but I want it to be articulate and concise without being repetitive, y'know?

(It also makes me think about how I used to episode reviews back in the day, how I would actually write them out pretty much almost immediately after an episode aired. How did I manage that? I don't even know anymore....)

Yeah, there are others who have expressed precisely my thoughts on the season way better than I can, but I still want to articulate the way I felt nonetheless. Because trust me, I have a lot of thoughts on what happened and about particular characters, and I want to go into detail but I find myself just getting too carried away. Perhaps I might do a separate post with just those talking points, and not just a review of the season.

Simpler times LOL. I should start doing that again, it is a good way to find your own thoughts before the Internet tries to tell you what to think.

The thing I appreciated the most about Naomi's story was how the writers and directors resisted the urge to have her monologue. I think lesser shows would have had her narrating all of her actions, but it was so much more engaging to wonder what she was thinking, what her plan was, would it work.

I'm so excited for The Mighty Ducks. I completely agree with you on Emilio Estevez. Hoo. *fans self*

I've finally started watching The Expanse. Only season 1 so far but I'm enjoying it.

With Nostalgia... I mean, it works. I love seeing new things get created because I think telling new stories is important but sometimes something hits my nostalgia buttons and it just works. My feeling currently has been if I'm interested in it then yay. If I'm not then I'll just ignore it, maybe it's doing the trick for someone else.

That is a good point.

And yeah, that is something I really liked about her storyline in the latter half of the season. They really utilized the "show, don't tell" aspect of the storytelling, the visual clues to what she was doing and seeing her struggling is what made that part of her arc so tense. I loved seeing that, especially since it further demonstrated the fantastic acting by Dominique Tipper where it was just her and a spaceship, nobody else around her, and it made for some amazing emotional storytelling.

Oh yay, that's awesome! I'm so glad that you're enjoying it so far. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it the further you go along. :D

I don't mind nostalgia here and there when it works, but I think we've been overloaded with nostalgia in recent years and not always in a good way, and not always with the best intentions. Sometimes, some things shouldn't be bothered with and just left alone. I would rather have that than a soulless resurrection of something I used to love for the sake of the industry making a quick buck.

Fully agree on the nostalgia. There's a lot of cases where I think they're just trying to cash in on an idea and it looks like garbage to me. I do wish we'd see more new things, the new stuff can hit so big but studios have to be willing to back it.

As for The Expanse. So far I like it. It's not hooked me entirely the way the books did - I definitely have to get to reading the rest of the books so I can keep going with the show. I'm interested enough to keep going and see how they build out the universe. The sets and the scope of the show are amazing!

The episode where she was creating her own distress message...and you couldn't hear what she had done until the credits began to roll...that gave me goosebumps. It has been SO long since a show gave me real goosebumps, real surprise. LOVE IT.

Have you watched/listened to any of Ty and That Guy? I did the first episode and it was a lot of fun, those two crack me up.
