++ I definitely want to read Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn whenever I get the chance to, because of the high praise of the miniseries which is rightfully deserved. I already knew what the reveal was since I looked it up beforehand, but it still didn't lessen how effective that finale was. It's why I can't wait to actually read the book since I've heard that it's even more chilling and disturbing.
++ Melissa Rosenberg, the creator and showrunner for Netflix's Marvel's Jessica Jones, will be leaving after its third season. Most are worried about what this means for the future of the show. Whether Netflix will cancel it or find a replacement showrunner, and if the latter then will they find someone appropriate to fill in the shoes that will handle the topics and subject matter featured on the show with the same kind of sensitivity and respect that Rosenberg has been adamant about since day one. There's a lot of uncertainty right now, which is understandable. We'll just have to see what happens. Though whoever they choose for the possible next showrunner, I hope they will be more inclusive with adding more WOC/POC, which many have already criticized Rosenberg for excluding, who then claimed that "it didn't occur" to her. So yeah, while there's no doubt that Rosenberg brought a lot of amazing stuff to the show which is worth recognizing, she also lacked in certain areas, too. It's important to acknowledge these flaws and for hoping that S3 and beyond will try to do better in that department, regardless of the showrunner.
++ Veronica Mars will possibly be getting that revival treatment, with a limited eight-episode order on Hulu. I'll be completely honest, I have conflicted feelings about this. I think my main issue is mostly tied to this revival/reboot culture we're currently living in that I've ranted about before, and how oftentimes these revivals have less than desirable results with their final product. Some may be decent, but sometimes you gotta take a step back and go, do we really need this?
I loved Veronica Mars when it aired, but I think as time has gone on I've since gained a different perspective and have come to the conclusion that I only really truly loved the first season, everything else after that was lackluster in some form or another. S2 was a mess, S3 was slightly better but not by much, and I didn't even bother with the reunion movie despite the success of the Kickstarter (which ironically is where I believe this revival trend sparked from, tbh) since it was mostly just bringing back as many actors as possible without there being much of a plot. So, in my opinion, their track record hasn't really been that impressive for getting me on board with this revival. Perhaps I'm being too cynical, idk. It could actually turn out to be rather decent, but as a whole I'm just not at that excitement level as I probably would've been years ago.

Date: 2018-09-03 03:46 am (UTC)Oh really? I hadn't heard that. I wonder where the show will go from here. I can't picture Netflix cancelling the show, but you never know. I think it would probably depend on how the next season goes with a new show runner. I def hope they will be more inclusive when the show returns because it's def not right now.

Date: 2018-09-03 04:18 am (UTC)I don't think there needs to be a revival, to be honest, unless it's to completely redo the reunion movie into something more cohesive. Because I felt like the point of the movie was to give a sense of closure for fans who were disappointed were the show left off when it was cancelled. I can't really see there being anything more to tell. If there is more, they can have a series of books or comic books for more adventures. But as far as television is concerned, I think it's time to move on from that. Not everything needs to have a revival.

Date: 2018-09-03 06:27 am (UTC)Yeah, I can't really picture Netflix cancelling Jessica Jones either, since it's considered the most popular of their Marvel lineup. But with what happened with Sense8 and other shows, you never know. Netflix has started to become more like traditional television in recent years where it can cancel anything for any reason. I don't think a change in showrunners is going to matter much to them, but it can definitely drastically take a turn if the new showrunner doesn't live up to what was already established in the show itself. They really need to find someone who is of the same wavelength and understands the tone of the show, the characters, everything.
Also, I love Jessica Jones (obviously) but the lack of inclusiveness is definitely glaring. It's good that Melissa Rosenberg acknowledged these concerns and criticisms, but it shouldn't even be an afterthought, so it was disappointing reading her response.

Date: 2018-09-03 02:52 pm (UTC)I totally agree with you about VM. S1 was my all time favorite while the other seasons were okay, but nothing fantastic. I did watch the movie, but still nothing will ever compare to S1 for me. I'm really hesitant about a revival. I hope they do it justice, but with saying that I doubt that'll happen :x

Yeah, since most revivals don't really do their original series justice, with some of them being merely passable at best, and only a few actually being really good.

Date: 2018-09-03 05:36 pm (UTC)I'm pretty sure they will. It's doubtful that they would cancel one of their best Marvel shows because the showrunner is leaving, but then again Netflix has made some questionable decisions in recent years so the concerns people have are valid.

Date: 2018-09-03 06:59 pm (UTC)I hope I'm wrong though, and that it continues being on. But it does beg the question on long can these Netflix Marvel series will last? Do they have a plan of where they want to end?

Date: 2018-09-03 10:00 pm (UTC)At first I was unsure if they had aged Amma up or not though, in the miniseries Amma and her friends came off as around 15/16 to me, but I guess that’s tv casting for you lol, and I can appreciate why they wouldn’t want to hire an actual 13 year old for some of those scenes

Date: 2018-09-04 06:34 am (UTC)I know some were hoping for a little younger actress because it would have amped up the disturbing factor of a young child doing these violent acts, making the reveal much more shocking and chilling, but the actress they chose ended up doing such a fantastic job that you can forgive the television casting of someone slightly more older because her performance was so good. But it makes me want to read the book even more.

Date: 2018-09-23 08:19 pm (UTC)I keep thinking about that! They kinda canceled The Defenders, but Iron First got a second season despite the bad reviews. Daredevil got a second season way too fast which ended up being a lot weaker than the first one. Makes it look as if they don't have a real plan like they do with the movies. It would make sense to have three seasons per character maybe? I don't how The Punisher and a potential Elektra show fit into that.
Then you have Disney's new streaming service. So far the plans are to expand movie characters, but in the long run, they probably want all their shows on there. Maybe that's already the death sentence for the Marvel Netflix shows.

Date: 2018-09-23 08:41 pm (UTC)Yeah, I was just thinking about this too since the announcement of the Disney streaming service having shows centered around MCU characters. I feel like there's a lot of uncertainty in the air about that, and I'm just worried about the outcome. :/
