++ I've decided to drop Legends of Tomorrow. I haven't been watching this season at all because I am just not motivated to do so, and it kinda feels like a chore otherwise. I still love Sara Lance and I appreciate that the show has expanded her character more than Arrow did, but as a whole Legends has been rather meh after the first season for me. And it's not like the first season was perfect or anything, but I just preferred that structure more than what the show has become, if that makes any sense. I know that they've embraced the ridiculousness and people are enjoying the campy fun and that's all fine and good, but I'm just not feeling it. I might return to the show at some point in the future depending on my mood, but as for right now I need a pause.

++ So Siren premiered and while I don't have any opinions or thoughts just yet since it just started, it did open pretty strong. I'm not sure how long that'll last, but I see potential of where the story could go. I will say, though, that the actress, Eline Powell, who plays Ryn (the mermaid/siren) is absolutely phenomenal. Her performance really sells that she is this mysteriously otherworldly being, predatory and unsettling yet vulnerable and childlike at the same time. One of the draws for me with this series is that they're going for the darker side of the mermaid mythology, so they really kind of got that down so far. I'm hoping it continues on like that, so we'll have to see as the season goes on. But still, kudos to the actress, I'm already loving Ryn so much.

++ Kesha has released a new music video for "I Need A Woman To Love", a cover of Janis Joplin, and it's LGBT-themed and shows actual footage of her officiating a lesbian couple. It's for an album called Universal Love, which will feature a variety of different artists, that are reimagining love songs centering around LGBT couples by changing the pronouns to be more inclusive. Also today, Janelle Monáe released a music video for "PYNK", which is both a celebration of women and LGBT, just like her previous video for "Make Me Feel", and both videos feature Tessa Thompson, obviously. I've always loved Janelle's music and her videos, but I particularly love how ambitious she's been getting with these concepts. Like, these visuals, the outfits, the blatant unapologetic imagery, the color palette, all of this is next level. It is pure artistry and should be recognized as such.

++ Hayley Kiyoko's debut album, Expectations, recently dropped and it's absolutely amazing. Most will know that Hayley started getting noticed for her music when she released "Girls Like Girls" back in 2015, which got a lot of attention, and she's been gradually releasing music/music videos over the years before now with the release of a full length album. She's been doing a lot of promotion for the album, doing interviews and live performances and such, and I have to say, she's very funny and seems very personable. I've only known her from her acting performances in the past and, of course, with her music but I didn't really know her, as a person, until most recently. Which makes sense because she has admitted that she's a very private person, but I think with this amount of exposure she's been getting lately she's been revealing more about herself bit by bit, which is great to see and I can't wait to see what else she brings in the future.

I gave up on Legends too. I loved it until they did that weird crossover episode. I was only watching Legends so it made no sense for that episode. I was only really watching it for Victor Garber anyways.

Did Ke$ha have to make the album under that asshole, or was she able to get away from him? As much as I love her and the idea of her album, I hate it if she was forced to work for that monster.

I haven’t seen Sirer... I think I saw the trailer and I was interested but I am not sure!

I know how you feel about legends... I think this season is not too bad... of only we could stop revolving bad guys... that would be good... what I can’t watch (and I am trying) it’s Arrow... I just hate the 3 “new” guys...

The crossover episodes don't really work unless you watch all of the CW DC shows, which I only watched Legends and didn't really care for any of the crossover episodes since I agree, it made no sense whatsoever. I wish that the CW would at least try to do a separate thing for huge crossover events instead of each show having an episode dedicated to it, because otherwise it would be confusing for someone who only watches one of the shows featured.

Kesha is no longer working with her abuser, thank goodness. I think there are still some legal things that need to be dealt with, but overall she is pretty much done with him in her life and is spending her time healing from all the damage that was caused by him. Her album, "Rainbow", is her first comeback album that she wrote and produced herself without his involvement. Her first single from it, "Praying" (https://youtu.be/v-Dur3uXXCQ), is very much a huge middle finger to her abuser and the entire album is about finding acceptance and peace within herself to grow stronger and it's such and empowering album altogether. I highly recommend listening to it, if you haven't yet.

(Also, Kesha dropped the dollar sign in her stage name, as I believe that was a symbol of all the years she was being abused and has now grown from it and being true to herself.)

I'd say give Siren a chance. There's only been three episodes so far but I'm quite liking the setup they've got going on, and the performance of the main actress is superb, as I mentioned.

I just haven't seen any of the third season of Legends, because I feel like I lost all motivation to do so? I was feeling that way in S2, which I watched most of but lost interest towards the end. I don't know. I know that many are liking how campy and fun it is, but for some reason it doesn't work for me as I thought it would. It's weird, since it seems something I would enjoy and yet I've lost pretty much all interest in it. *shrugs*

Exactly! Like, what if we haven't caught up with the other shows? Now things are spoiled. I hate crossover episodes.

That's amazing to hear. I didn't know any of that, but I'm glad she's away from that toxic relationship. She deserves to be happy. Thank you for telling me all of it.

Eline Powell, who plays Ryn (the mermaid/siren) is absolutely phenomenal.

YES. And I love the very non-specific-language accent she's using. You can believe that Ryn hasn't spoken with humans before!

I really want to start Legends because everyone says I'd love Sara! But I've heard the same things you're saying about it, also. I guess I'll just have to give it a shot to find out.

I'm so curious about Siren because I collect tons of mermaid stuff, it's so up my alley. Sounds good!

I'm in love with Expectations. It flows so well from song to song.

If you want to get an introduction to Sara as a character, I'd say watch S2 of Arrow (it's probably the best and only good season of the show, imho), or at least the episodes she's featured in, which are sprinkled here and there throughout. You can probably find some clips online of just her scenes, I think. But Legends is where she really thrived a lot since she is basically the main character. But even her presence alone isn't enough for me to kind of stick with the show, because my interest has been gradually waning as I mentioned. But it's a matter of personal opinion, really, since I've seen people say that LOT is better than most of the Arrowverse shows (but that doesn't really say much considering that anything is better than most Arrowverse shows at this point).

Yeah, if you're really deep with your mermaid/merfolk lore then this show can definitely be worth a shot. It's only been three episodes so I'll wait until the season is finished to form a proper opinion on how things are done with the plot and direction, but so far it's pretty good.

I know, right? I know that Hayley said that it's best to listen to the album in order from beginning to end (how else would you ever listen to an album though, tbh?) but I was pleasantly surprised with how smooth each track transitions into each other, the narrative was pieced together so beautifully. I can tell that she put a lot of thought into this creation, and it works so well. I love it.

I know, right? The actress is so good at convincing you that she truly is another being that hasn't communicated with another human. From her speech to her mannerisms, as well. I remember being curious based off what I saw from the trailers and previews, and if nothing else watching the first three episodes really has sold me on her alone. I'm just so fascinated and mesmerized by her performance.

I feel like it's the CW's way of forcing you to watch the rest of their DC lineup, which, yeah no. I don't mind the initial idea of these crossovers, but the fact that they make these major events instead of gradual crossovers where it doesn't disrupt a particular show's rhythm is rather off-putting, personally speaking.

And you're totally welcome! I've been following all of this since the whole thing started with her trying to get out of her contract, and it's been a heartbreaking journey, but she's remained strong from the love and the support of the fans and she has made her comeback and I'm so, so proud of her. :)

lol, I stopped watching Arrow the moment they killed off Sara in the beginning of S3. I know that they resurrected her a season later, but that was only after they realized they fucked up based on the fandom outrage. But then they did the same thing with Laurel, which is unforgivable as well, and I've just been hearing how much of a shitshow everything has become of that. I feel like Arrow was only good in S1 and S2, after that idk what happened.

I dropped Legends at the beginning of last season for pretty much the same reasons as you. And Sara was my favorite too!

Everyone keeps talking about Siren and how it’s actually quite good. I may have to check it out.

I just randomly checked out Siren on Hulu one day and I'm really digging it, and I like that they are going the darker route with their mythology too. I will say I hope her sister isn't captive the entire show, the way they ended the last episode it felt like she wouldn't be, but you never know.

Yeah. I mean, S1 had its issues but I always felt the structure of the season was very solid, and from S2 onwards it kind of lost that solid ground it started on and just went onto doing whatever and became kind of a mess of things. Which, for some it works, but for me I ended up losing my interest. And it's less about them embracing the ridiculousness and more of there not being a stable structure in the writing and presentation of the seasonal arc, if that makes any sense. It flowed better, is what I'm trying to get at.

Keep in mind that Siren has had only three episodes so far, so it's still pretty early to judge, but it did have quite a solid start. I'm hoping it remains that way and continues the momentum it started on throughout the rest of the season.

Yeah. They always realize they fucked up and bring someone back. Like they did with Laurel. Brought back Laurel from Earth 2. As if that magically fixs it. I'm just so done. I use to care about the show, now I really don't.

I really like the concept, and so far the show started off rather strongly. So I'd say it's worth checking out, definitely.

Janelle's music videos have always been on point, but lately she's been knocking it out of the park by taking it to the next level and this is like the ultimate achievement unlock, imho. I cannot imagine any other music artist doing what Janelle has been doing like this. She is amazing. :D

Seriously. I feel so bad for Katie Cassidy, because she mentioned how much she adored Laurel and was excited to be transitioning to become Black Canary (spending months training and everything) only for the character to be killed off. And yeah, her being Black Siren/Laurel from Earth 2 is pretty dope and that character is badass and all, but that still doesn't excuse what they did and it doesn't/shouldn't give them a free pass like this is an acceptable replacement. Ugh.

And yeah, I know that Laurel wasn't everyone's favorite character, the writing for her was rather inconsistent and could've been much better (the writing for the show as a whole could be much better, lbr) but it was such a low blow.

I watched this season of Legends but I may not watch next season. It's gotten a little bit ridiculous and I just don't love it anymore.

Yeah, pretty much my feelings as well. It's strange because usually I would enjoy them embracing the ridiculous fun as opposed to taking itself too seriously for the concept they have, but I think they kind of lost what I liked about the show initially from the first season. Which is why I've gradually just started losing interest in it altogether, because the structure just doesn't really jive with me anymore.

Hey, if you're enjoying the show for what it is then that's great! What doesn't work for me might work for other people.

Yeah. I feel like there's other shows that do that. Kill off beloved characters. Like SPN. They killed Charlie off... and now with the Alternate Universe, they brought her back... but it isn't quite the same.

I think I'm going take Arrow off my DVR. I just don't care about the show anymore.:/ Yeah, Laurel was never a favorite character but I didn't hate her.

Date: 2018-04-19 12:08 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com
I stopped watching SPN long ago, but when I heard what they did to Charlie, knowing that she was a beloved character, I was pissed off. Not only was it the dreaded Bury Your Gays trope, but the reason she was killed off was because one of the executive producers thought that her time on the show was up. That? Is no excuse for killing off a character, since there are so many different ways of writing a character off the show if there is nothing else to be told of their story, ffs. Ugh. And yeah, I read that an AU!Charlie appeared recently, but you're right it's not the same at all and is a complete cop-out.

Date: 2018-04-19 03:42 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] place-to-hide.livejournal.com
I can't quit Supernatural. <3 Yeah. I liked seeing Felicia Day back as Charlie even though it was AU!Charlie. Just to see her character again. It was a HORRIBLE way for Charlie to die. It made me so upset. I think that's what I heard. That 'her time on the show was up.' Which is just kind of ridiculous thing to say.

Arrow on the other hand. I just can't watch it anymore. I watched last week's episode today and I was still bored and not interested.

I fell behind on LoT a while ago. I think I may pick it back up eventually. I agree it hasn't been as good since the first season.

I just tried the pilot of Siren. Ryn's actress is definitely amazing. Gonna at least give it another episode.

Date: 2018-04-20 10:33 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com
I just feel like Legends really lost its sense of direction after the first season and stopped making sense. I get why some people may like that, but it's just not for me. I do appreciate them kind of "saving" characters that other shows have dismissed or forgotten, though, I guess that is the biggest praise I've seen so far which you cannot the appeal of that. But I just don't want to waste my time on a show that I just have absolutely no energy for and have lost all interest in.

By the fourth episode of Siren there is a lot of progression on a certain storyline, which is kind of surprising since I'm so used to storylines being drawn out. So I would say watch until the fifth episode or so to see whether or not it'll be your taste of a show.
