I don't know if other Targets do this, but ours makes one long line and instructs people which check-out to go to in order to avoid messy crowds and save time (and give the cashiers a bit of relief from the insanity of the season, thank goodness). It seems tedious and massive, but the line does go quicker. It's not perfect, but it makes things go a little easier with larger crowds. Of course we're still not in the thick of things quite yet, so things can become much, much worse. Regardless, even though I don't mind waiting, I hate long lines. I hate big crowds in general. :/
