++ Hello all from the Summer Friending Meme. *waves*

++ Over the last couple of years I've become a fan of Richard Armitage, all thanks to his amazing performance in The Hobbit films, and I've been following his career ever since. Right now he's playing John Proctor in The Crucible play at The Old Vic in London, which the performance has been getting positive rave reviews (it's been receiving five star reviews, which is apparently huge). I'm incredibly jealous of those who get to experience the play, which I hear is quite intense, not to mention being able to meet Richard afterwards. Judging from the fan encounters, it's unsurprising how utterly sweet, humble and gentlemenly he is with every single person he meets. It just adds to the attractiveness of him for me, tbh. Basically, with all he's accomplished so far in his career, with returning to the stage on top of everything else (this year alone, three upcoming films and an audiobook), he's really come into his element and I'm very proud of him. (◡‿◡✿)

++ With all the news about the new Sailor Moon, it makes me think about how while I never got into the anime or manga, I did get addicted to the live-action Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon and thus I'm reminiscing my introduction to it (and how I had to obtain fanmade burned DVDs via eBay because I wanted to watch the rest of the series), and how it was my window the Asian dramas in general. Ah, bless. ♥

++ Let's talk about new shows! Finding Carter is a new show on MTV, which is essentially a television series version of The Face On The Milk Carton. Like, the same plot and the same issues, possibly with more teen drama to keep the MTV audience "tuned in." I'm not sure how it'll hold up, but if it works out it could be rather good. Then there's Jane the Virgin which I've been seeing the trailers everywhere for, and unless it's entirely misleading into what the show is primarily about, I predict it will probably be canceled after its first season. Like, the entire premise sounds ridiculously fucked up and offensive, and borderline into some terrifying pro-life propaganda territory. Like, I don't understand how anyone thought this was a good idea to make?

And finally, I watched the pilot for Girl Meets World, and while it had its cute moments I was underwhelmed by it. I know that I'm not the target audience, that it's not for my generation who grew up with Boy Meets World, but I honestly don't think this is for "today's" generation either. It seems more for the Disney Channel Corp. generation, as it has that same formula all Disney Channel shows have these days, and that disappointed me the most. This is only the pilot though, and I hear that it gets a little better some episodes in, so I'm crossing my fingers.

Yep, I saw an ad for "Finding Carter" and thought, "Hmm, it's The Face on the Milk Carton. That takes me back." Not sure I'll watch it, but it is an interesting premise.

I remember when I got into Rarmitage, I took the path via North and South (belated, though) and Robin Hood, which gave my Guy aka one of my most favourite twisted characters ever. Aw. So many memories connected to him :) I'm not as obsessive as I was back in the day, but hey, still ogling and admiring and all that, because YES <3

Richard ♥ I didn't even know he's in a play! (Not much into fandoms other the The Musketeers these days ^^) That's awesome, though, and I bet he's indeed amazing. I love how he loves everything he does, and is still utterly suprised at fan's positive reactions etc. Modesty is one of my top 3 favorite traits in people, and it really makes him even more precious than he already is =) I love how his performance as Thorin has sort of paved the way for him and that he's getting the recognition he deserves!

I'm not sure I'll get into it myself (at least not until the whole season has aired so I can marathon it), but with such a premise I really hope they go further into the main character going through an identity crisis. Based off the trailer, she was firm in keeping the name she's had rather than the name she was born with.

This also brought back memories to The Face On The Milk Carton and my issues I had with what Janie went through where her biological parents forbade her from seeing her old friends, and how they tried to force her back into their family again without really thinking about her feelings or any consideration about her own identity. I remember be so frustrated with that. I know that I'm giving too much credit for an MTV show, but I'm hoping they at least further addressing these kinds of issues and conflicts.

I've just begun this obsession, and I've been absorbing everything he's done. North and South was the first thing I watched after I discovered him from The Hobbit, and I was completely enamored with his performance. He was utterly perfect as John Thornton, broody and romantic and looks very good in a cravat. And it just exploded from there, and I don't think it'll cease anytime soon.

I just received the first season of Robin Hood, and I'm thinking about getting Strike Back and Spooks next. And I got the recent audiobook he did, which I'm thinking about getting the other ones he's narrated in the past.

And with his play, all the new films he'll be in, I'm just really happy that he's where he wants to be with his career. :D

Disney channel produces the weirdest shows these days. Everything is sooooo OTT and zany. And bright. Seriously, some of the sets practically look the The Simpsons house.

It's been a very long time since I read that book, but- and I too may be giving too much credit for an MTV show- hopefully the fact that she's obviously a lot older than the protagonist from The Face On The Milk Carton will play a role in fixing those problems (the choices about what happens next should be more in her hands). The confusion someone like her would be facing on so many levels is the main thing that makes the story interesting, after all.

I never watched live-action Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon but just the thought of so many plot lines from the manga seen through a drama perspective is hilarious.

As for Girl Meets World, hopefully it gets better but I’m thinking I might just tune in to episodes with special guest stars (to this day I am not over Shawn Hunter not constantly appearing on my tv screen).

I haven't watched it, but in the long haul I'm hoping that they deal with things concerning how difficult it must be to transition from one life to another and going through an identity crisis. I imagine that Carter doesn't know where she belongs anymore, because she just found out that the mother she knew wasn't really her mother and that her biological mother doesn't know who she (as an individual) is, and everyone else around her will be looking at her strangely/make assumptions.

Being that it is an MTV show I'm not going to get high hopes, but I'm hoping that there's more substance to deal with because this is a premise that can be good if done right.

Yeah. I'm all about feeling nostalgic, but honestly I would have preferred them to make something centering around the adulthood of Cory, Topanga and Shawn rather than a whole new generation of kids, you know? And on a different channel, because I dislike what Disney Channel has become.

The live-action PGSM was pretty awesome. Cheesy, but still remains awesome. And surprisingly very emotional towards the end.

That's what I'm thinking, too. Like, no offense to the child actors, but I'm more about the nostalgia for the BMW cast more than anything else. I really want to see the return of Shawn and Angela and possibly Eric and Morgan. I'm also curious about what they're planning with Mr. Feeney.

I heard somewhere that the reason for that is because they assume kids today are ADD and that the vivid colors and zaniness make them pay attention more, which is kind of insulting when you think about it, especially when they dumb everything down.

I grew up with Disney Channel in the late 80s/90s. They used to be so diverse with their programming, and now it's just the same produced shit on a loop. All the sets for their shows are practically the same (along with Nickelodeon, too), and it's all quite forced with the over-the-top acting for some cheap canned laughter. And I really dislike the way they treat their kid actors underneath contract.

Yeah, it is really forced. I know sitcoms are not reality anyway, but every time I flip through the Disney Channel, I just have to go no one actually acts like that in real life.

Basically everything you said about him, yes. The more I read about him, his interviews and fan encounters and whatnot, the more I fall deeper and deeper in love with the man. I'm very attracted to humble nature of people, and I love that he's both very passionate and serious about his work but is very kindhearted and gentle in his personality. And I'm just so happy that he's coming out of his shell and getting more recognition for his work and talent as he properly deserves. So, so proud. I hope he gets all the roles and opportunities from here on out. ♥

There is nothing better than the beginning of a new obsession, is there? Of course there isn't! (What else was I going to say, I'm currently in that phase as well, haha).

I enjoyed Strike Back, I even read the book when word got out that Richard would be cast. It was fun and very action driven and sexy. Spooks was good to, at least up to a point, I think he did three seasons and I hated the way his character and storylines went. And well, yes, North and South is such a perfect given. But still, somehow, Gizzy got me most - I made a list of "characters with issues" in the first decade of the 2000's years, and he was #1. He's just so... I don't know, the show is fun, just don't take it all too seriously, for it does make fun of itself. Just enjoy. And fall for Gizzy, omg. *sighs*

I'm glad you haven't either. I mean, I remember looking at the pitched pilots earlier this year and thinking, "well these all look like a mess." I'm not sure how this one managed to escape being axed.

I have a friend here who adores Richard Armitage and met him when he toured through Toronto and had nothing but good things to say about him :)

I did watch Sailor Moon (the translated versions) and enjoyed it enough that I'll try the new one. I liked Avitar as well, haven't tried Korra yet. I keep meaning to watch more Anime but haven't done a lot yet.

Finding Carter is on my to watch list! It sounded like something I would love!

I heard about Jane the Virgin and figured I'd pass. Unless it gets surprise rave reviews I suspect it's a show that would just make me angry.

I'm hesitant about Girl Meets World. I also heard it's getting a bit better as the series continues so I'm holding off watching until we see if it'll be good or just another bland Disney show.
