Alternative scene/ending for the Malfoys?

This is a deleted scene, or rather one of the alternative endings for the Malfoys, which they shot but wasn't used in the final cut of the film (watch it here, starts @ 7:00m).

Shipping reasons aside (because I loves me some Harry/Draco ♥), there is quite a blowup on Tumblr right now on how they should have kept this scene as it would have shown Draco's character growth about going to the good side instead of running away like a "coward" and all of this hoopla. Which I greatly disagree with.

As much as I would have liked to see how the film would have done it differently by having Draco stay with the students of Hogwarts instead of going over to the Death Eaters, or switched sides once realizing that Harry was alive and fought beside him and whatnot, I just don't see how that could have fit with the ending they ultimately chose. Which was about family. The entire point, that is the essential piece that brought it all together was how reluctant Draco when he was called to walk across the courtyard. We knew that he didn't support Voldemort. He did it because of his mother calling after him, because he loves his family. Also, I don't like how people seem to think the Malfoys running away in the end is a bad thing. How is it bad by getting the hell out of dodge and saving your family? They had a change of heart, they no longer supported this war. They got their family back together, and they were leaving. I think it's one of the most courageous moments for them and the best ending for all of them to have, in my opinion. As much as I would have preferred them to go by the book ending for them, in film!canon I wouldn't change anything about the ending the Malfoys got. Well, aside from getting more Lucius/Narcissa moments since the films were seriously lacking in that department.

Yep. And actually, the video game for DHP2 had Draco throwing Harry his wand, and people were confused on how come that was in there. Now we know. It's interesting seeing it happen like that, and yeah, if that could have happened and they would have left that would have been cool by me. :)

I couldn't have asked for a better ending in the film. I felt they did the Malfoys justice in that sense, since it was really was in their character. I mean, granted I would loved more scenes with them (and entire Malfoy movie would be nice, lol ;p) but quite frankly, by film standards, they did them very good. I'm happy they used that ending and I'm happy they actually contemplated on the various endings they could do for their characters in the end. The one they chose was more close to the book ending, and I liked it very much.

Sorry, gushing over Malfoys. ;)

Oh believe me I have certain ~ideas for an entire Malfoy story, and if I had the money I would fund getting if not a movie then a miniseries I would so do it in a heartbeat. ;D

I was really worried, too. They did film a version where Lucius did die, which is the one Jason Isaacs wanted (the only thing I disagree with him regarding the character), but I'm happy they didn't use that in the final cut of the film. It works better with them fleeing the battle as a family.

Well, I've always wanted to know what happened to them post-war. So my idea is having a story centered around their perspective on how they managed after everything they went through, how they survived and got on and tried to better their lives and redeem themselves, particularly concerning Draco. I also wondered if they were ever targeted by former Death Eaters, getting revenge for not participating in fighting in the war, or other members of the Wizarding society for their association with Voldemort, and whatnot. So their lives being threatened in some way, and how they were going to deal with it, realizing their past was going to bite them hard in the ass.

Just a little idea I had brewing in my head for some time. :) I have a bit more, including flashbacks to during the war (the First and Second wars) giving more information about them as a family and how despite everything they were sticking together no matter what, but yeah. That's essentially my own ideas for a post-War kind of story.

If anything, just something showing the more domesticated side of the Malfoys. A spin-off, little details about them, anything. My love for this family knows no bounds, tbh. ♥
