I couldn't get into the books, but I'm enthusiastic to watch the film, and I'm actually happy that I now have some idea what's going on. Hell, maybe the film will make me want to read the last two books.

But I agree with you about the marketing, because focusing on any sort of romance would probably have put off people who I think would enjoy the movie. Also, the first book doesn't really have any anyway and I'd hate for them to force some in.
