You know what's funny, I still see people questioning on why Dean's eyes bled in "Bloody Mary", wondering what secret did he have. I think someone even wrote that question in for Jensen in that Twitter thing a while back (like Jensen would know the answer or even remember what happened in that episode, anyway...) I honestly think that it's rather insignificant judging from what was happening, Mary was trying to kill them both because they were trying to destroy her, so it had nothing to do with whatever dark secret he might have labored, if he had one. Now it wouldn't be a problem because of what happened in Hell, but back then, and knowing the lives of hunters in general, it could be a number of things. One could argue of what was revealed in "Something Wicked", but yeah, I think in context of what was happening in that scene I don't think it means what people think.

Sorry, this is what happens when I keep thinking about this kind of stuff. It's been nagging at my brain on why people are still hung up on that. What do you all think?

Anyway, right now I have new current obsessions. Rewatched Nikita again and I still love it, hopefully it continues to go on this strong or possibly stronger as the season goes on. Haven continues to shock and amaze (and potentially scare) me in the best ways. I'm more excited for Caprica to return than any other show at the moment, because Cylons trump everything else, this is just trufax. 2NE1 released three music videos and I am in love with every single one of them and they just did a comeback performance this morning (CL is so fucking fierce I can't stand it). Oh, and Selena Gomez's new album had leaked the other day, and I've been listening to it and I love all of it. Seriously, I think this one is way better than her first. Definitely going to buy this when I get the chance.

Yes, I am a Selena Gomez fan and I am unashamed of this fact. Out of all the Disney stars she's by far the most grounded, humble and decent role model for young girls. ♥ I love love love her sfm. Oh, I don't even remember that scene in Bloody Mary but maybe it was something as simple as what the Shapeshifter in Skin implied, Dean was jealous of Sam because Sam got to go to college and have dreams of his own.

But in "Bloody Mary" she targeted murderers, whether intentional or not, which is the dark secret that those who were victims of hers had. Sam didn't prevent Jessica's death even though he had repeated nightmares/premonitions of it happening. So that spawned people wondering about what dark secret would have caused Dean's eyes to bleed too, not necessarily about Dean's jealousy of Sam.

Heh, it's one of my favorite episodes of S1, I've watched it many times. ;p But it's funny that it's still a topic of discussion about that particular thing after all these years. I never really thought much about it because I naturally assumed that it was just because she was getting them both, not because there was some dark secret Dean wasn't admitting to.

Y'know, I was rewatching season one a couple weeks ago and that question came up between the sister and I. She says it was probably just that Mary was about to get destroyed and would go after anyone trying to eliminate her, which is completely valid and what both of us thought the first time around.

I say that if you wanted to make it mean something, why not refer to the incident where Dean travels back in time and sets Azazel on his family and inadvertently causes the deaths of his grandparents (and the first death of his Dad)? Their deaths at the hands of "Yellow-Eyes" was solely due to his presence and actions in the past. Sure, at the time of Bloody Mary Dean has no idea he's done this, but it has technically already happened and he's responsible.

But whatever. I think at the time it was supposed to be an episode about Sam and how his big brother saves him from himself. Which Dean did, even though he was suffering the same fate as his brother, which makes him AWESOME.

Eh, that doesn't necessarily work in my opinion. The entire time-travel issue can be considered incredibly tricky and I'm sure that wouldn't have been the case even if they had thought about that seasons later. If anything it could be based on many things as I stated above. The fact that this is more for one's own interpretation is interesting though, because I've read different things about Dean's guilty conscience that make nice arguments, but we don't know for certain. I think that's why people want a definite answer, though I'm sure Kripke and Co. weren't really thinking that far ahead when it happened, or even about that little moment from the episode when they tried connecting things together in these later seasons.

Well, that's what happened in every episode back then in all honesty. It was always about Sam and his connections to the bigger picture until Dean got his own storyline (that they abandoned completely and still made things all about Sam in the end, but I digress...)

Maybe it was something as simple as someone Dean failed to save on a hunt? You know, a whole "grab my hand" scenario, and whoever it was slipped right through his fingers. I can see Dean blaming himself for that.

That's my thought as well. Being a hunter means having those moments where you unintentionally lose someone in battle, an innocent you were trying to save, a mission gone wrong. Dean would definitely place the blame on himself if that is the case, as I'm sure he still does with everything else that goes wrong.

That was answered in the comics I think. During a hunt, I think Dean (by way of John) accidentally killed someone. I don't know though.

I don't really consider the comics canon, though. In anyway, it would be inevitable that they would accidentally kill someone during a hunt. I mean, hunters aren't always good at everything they do. Accidents happen. It's not really a dark secret like some people are expecting to be revealed from this.
