WANT THIS MOVIE NOW, KTHX.
Aug. 17th, 2010 03:39 pm
Of all the things this movie will provide, the one thing I'm really hoping they do faithfully is humanizing the Malfoys. They did a great job at making Draco sympathetic in Half-Blood Prince, so I hope they do the same in the the last film because, THIS IS THE LAST FILM YOU GUYS. THEY JUST HAVE TO.
More new images from HP7.
LOOKS SO GOOD. WANT THIS FILM RIGHT NOW. ASL;DFKJAS;DKF

Date: 2010-08-17 11:59 pm (UTC)I haven't seen any of the movies since GOF. Although I might have to solely for Draco. Tom Felton is aging very well...
I can't wait to re-read the whole series later this year and then do the HP meme you wrote of awhile back. I haven't read any of the books since Deathly Hallows came out.

Date: 2010-08-18 12:05 am (UTC)Half Blood Prince really does Draco justice, Tom Felton was amazing in movie. Just the subtle nuances he brought to his performance throughout was remarkable. He was the best thing out of the whole movie, but then again I am biased. ;) OOTP was also good, too, btw.

Date: 2010-08-18 04:16 am (UTC)I know I'll check them out one day. Although I loved the style of PoA, I felt like there were major things they didn't explain that would be confusing for people who haven't read the books (do they exist?), and GoF just...they really could have made the films longer instead of cramming a bunch of stuff in just two hours-ish (I mean LotR managed it, why not HP? I know, I know they're supposed to be "kids" movies, but come on!). I think I might have started watching OotP when it was on tv once...is that the one that starts with Harry at some little cafe or what have you? Well I just felt they departed from some major rules and stuff from the books and the world just wasn't the same and....wow this has gotten long and ranty sooooooooooorrry! I always want to like them, but.... :/ I never thought I'd become one of ~those~ fans.
I think I'm going to cave and perhaps DL them. I'll let you know how it goes, lol.

That would actually be Half-Blood Prince.
Nah, it's okay. I always found it funny that people would be ranting about the movies, because I am such a huge fan of the books and yet I still adore the movies for what they are. Surely they do leave stuff out, sometimes more than we would've liked, but I appreciate how they still keep to the spirit of the books intact (JK Rowling would have mentioned something otherwise, since she is part of the process of having the movies made and all) and I like the differences of creative imaginations by the different directors. I do have least favorite movies for particular reasons (CoS and GoF, mostly for the directorial/editing), but overall I understand that the movies aren't going to be just like the books. I guess I'm more neutral because the movies still hold that magical experience regardless, and I think with all the nitpicking that's what people should take out of it. That experience.

Date: 2010-08-19 08:13 am (UTC)DEFINITELY A FIERCE FAMILY, FOR REALS. ALSO, LUCIUS WITH HIS PIMP CANE! JUST THIS ENTIRE FAMILY, I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE ALL OF THEM BACK ON THE BIG SCREEN TOGETHER.

Date: 2010-08-20 10:00 am (UTC)Seriously, the thing I wish we had more of from the books, movies, anything really, is more on the Blacks, the Malfoys, the Slytherins in general, because I love the dynamics that are hinted at. How does a Slytherin fall in love with a mudblood (as Andromeda did)? What was the dynamic like between Regulus and Snape? How did life as a Death Eater work for Snape the double agent? I NEED TO KNOW THESE THINGS!
But, um, that picture is amazing.

Date: 2010-08-20 10:09 am (UTC)Oh, I totally with you on that, bb. The thing that I loved about the books was how utterly rich the entire world she created was, right down to all these characters that were only mentioned in passing but gave you a pretty good idea just how complex this world really is. But the downside to that is us wanting more! More information about those characters, I especially wanted more regarding Snape and his development as you mentioned, along with more of the Malfoys. There's so much more to explore with those, so much to really detail about their lives, their experiences, more background, etc.
But I think that's what makes JK Rowling a fantastic writer, because she allows us to be curious and wonder and be enthralled about things that weren't revealed in the books. But hopefully one day in the future she might do another little thing....????

Date: 2010-08-22 08:13 am (UTC)I did not watch the match. :( The coverage sucks where I live; I don't think a single channel around here plays the Europa League at all and I wasn't around to watch the stream. So sad. But yay for a win! Was it a good match? I read some of the match reports, but they never really give the flavor of the game.
I am excited about the Man City match. As much as I enjoyed the World Cup (um, a LOT), it's fun to be back in the swing of things, club-side.

Date: 2010-08-22 08:18 am (UTC)Oh, yes, for sure. There's something so magical (pardon the pun) about the world she created. It feels so real, from the history she made up for them to the rules that govern magic to their economic system. You can fall into it. I absolutely agree about the characters; it's one of those rare series where even the most minor of secondary characters still feels alive.
I would love it if she did more! I remember reading that she'd written a history of the Death Eaters and a biography of Voldemort in the course of her world building, and I would LOVE to read either or both! Also, there is that Harry Potter encyclopedia they keep talking about...
In any case, I really enjoyed Beedle the Bard and the other two "school" books they put out for charity. I'd take more of that too!
