I've been reading/watching some of the Dragon*Con recaps from over the weekend, or what I can since I think many people who went are too exhausted to write up anything at the moment. I just finished watching TOM FELTON'S panel via YouTube which...was this is first convention or appearance at an event like Dragon*Con? I'm so out of the loop on which of the HP cast has attended conventions over the years and all of that, but I do know he attended the fan event at Hot Topic earlier this year and he mentioned it was his first time ever at that kind of a meetup with fans so, yeah, I would assume this would be his first official convention to attend.

Anyway, how adorable is he? Not just from this but from interviews and such, he's just a genuinely friendly and nice and appreciative of the fans and is passionate about his work, as he describes at the panel. But of course, someone had to ask the question about fanfiction, which I inwardly cringed, but thankfully he took it in stride and prompted the infamous "Harry and Draco in bed" manip story that traumatized him, lol. But he's very appreciative of the fan community and loves that we love the HP universe and the movies and such, so that's great. Still though, WHY people mention it I don't know. Though we did get Tom giving his favorite scene ("Harry and I in the toilets") giving a great explosion from the audience, along with the question about whether Draco and Harry are secretly in love with one another, which I found hilarious and I think Tom did too, hee.

I know, I'm gushing right now. I think alongside Misha Collins, I am on a Tom Felton high. And I have to mention the birthday surprise some fans did for him at the con for his upcoming birthday, which is too sweet and his reaction is adorable, jsyk. AND HE'S JUST ONE YEAR YOUNGER THAN ME, HOLY SHIT! Just, kjasd;lfasdkf TOM FELTON. ♥

Aside from that, reading the BSG recaps from Dragon*Con kind of warms my heart. I just love the entire cast, they seem so approachable and kind and really appreciative of the fans and really truly loved not just working on the show, but the show in general, which is why I adore them. Plus, PRETTY CAST IS PRETTY. It makes me kinda want to not only attend a SPN con in the near future but also a BSG con event at some point.

Dude, I was at D*Con this weekend as well, lol. I didn't get to go to Tom's panels, but catching a glimpse of him in the Walk of Fame room was more than enough - the guy is gorgeous and looked so, so happy to be there. I was going to get his autograph, but when I figured out that everyone was charging for them, I saved my money for Malcolm McDowell instead, lol.

It actually made me very envious of all that went because I only get to experience these from behind the computer screen. But it's so awesome just reading and watching it nonetheless, and Tom is too hilarious and so adorable. And he IS VERY GORGEOUS and seemed very pleased to have been there. You could tell he enjoys interacting with the fans. :D

*shakes head* why do people feel the need to bring up fanfic with actors? It's really NOTHING to do with them; it's barely anything to do with the original writer/s but even less with the actors. Still, I'm glad Tom Felton took it in his stride.

Seriously! I understand curiosity sure, but there is that line you just don't cross, especially with actors who probably have zero idea about what the online fan community does. Some actors hardly know about fandom at all, so asking "what are your feelings about fanfiction?" is just setting up for much awkwardness and embarrassment, for the actors and for us fans in general.

But Tom was really cool about it, even though he seemed slightly placed on the spot. He seems to really enjoy the fans enthusiasm and actually mentioned the other things like musical talents like Draco and the Malfoys, the Potter Pals and even the musical, and appreciates all the love for the HP universe so that's great.

I love how he seems to appreciate all the fan love he receives, the pure joy on his face is undeniably cute. ♥ He seems to genuinely pleased, and he's too modest because he didn't want to cut the cake because how beautiful it was. Awwww. ♥ My crush on him has escalated now more than ever. :D

The movies are wonderful, I just have to put it out there. There are differences from the books but I think overall they capture the magic and wonder and tell the story. I have to admit I was slightly HP crazed back in the day, I have all the books and all the movies on DVD, including much merchandise, and now with HBP out in theaters I not only revived my love for Draco but for HP as a whole, I'm not kidding.

Just watched the clip :) it was sweet that they made the cake for him and his reaction to it.

And the dreaded fanfiction question at these events. I always laugh and cringe when people ask the actors about them. Why oh why do people ask them about fanfiction? I will never know.

I just love how genuinely sweet he is. Like, I've never doubted it, but just seeing something like this, something that fans did for him at a convention nonetheless, it just comes off so sweet and approachable and personable. Really makes me want to meet him. :D

I know, right? Why would people ask something like that? And interestingly, watching more of the his series of panels, the fanfiction thing was asked like two more times - and he mentioned someone had a picture of Harry and Draco semi-naked and asked if he could autograph it. Some people just need to draw that boundary line because there are certain things that you CANNOT ask/do at these sort of events. Thankfully he seems to brush it aside, but still, it's like second-hand embarrassment.

That is unbelievable. Even if I did ship that pairing I couldn't show that to him without being embarrassed.

I respect what people are into but these actors have their own lives, and I think some of the fans should try to separate their fantasy from the actor's reality.

And you are right: that is second hand embarrassment. I didn't even see this happened and I'm embarrassed for Tom Felton and the fan just thinking about it.

Hell, I would be embarrassed just to say "hi!" to an actor I absolutely adore, I wouldn't even fathom bringing something like that for him to sign.

On one hand, I can understand the general excitement of fans wanting actors to see their work and some artwork can be acceptable, but things like fanart/manips and fanfiction? No. There are certain fannish things that should stay inside the fandom, not go out towards the actors. I'm sure there are certain actors that will relish in the fannish talk (like Misha Collins, for example) but even so that does not give us permission to ask anything we want to. It shows kind of poor taste and gives that bad example of the entire fanbase in general.

I'm just happy that Tom was a good sport about all of it, even though he's probably thinking "what the hell did I get myself into?"
