Fanmix: Sylar - The Devil Inside

rogueslayer452I've been wanting to do a Heroes mix for a while now, I have several in the back of my mind and already written out as to what I want to do. Somehow Sylar seemed to be the first, though hardest, to really put together.
Summary: Gabriel Gray, known by the alias Sylar, is the most notorious serial killer in the Heroes universe. He takes the thrill of the kill to become the most powerful person in the entire world, and his M.O. is slicing open the heads of those deemed "special", stealing their brains and collecting their talented special abilities, neverminding the fact that his own special ability is within him already, he'd just been neglected and rejection of ever being acknowledged that he is special, therefore driving him over the edge of madness. This fanmix provides a further look into the dark mind of Sylar.

He's always wanted to be special, to be different, stand out amongst the masses. Until one day the opportunity came to him, like a calling bringing him his destiny, and before he could let it slip away he decided that he wanted this, he needed this and would do whatever it took to get it. Gabriel Gray has committed murder. What’s his reaction? How does he cope knowing that he killed another human being? It doesn’t matter, because now he’s become someone special and someone greater than the mere watchmaker he once was. He is now Sylar, the man who can take any ability he so pleases, and he does it without anyone catching him.

03. "Getting Away With Murder" by Papa Roach
He’s killed more than once, more than twice. In fact, he’s lost count at how many times he’s taken a life. It has become second nature to him, and he can’t seem to stop or want to stop, and he can't shake this craving for power, to be special, for blood on his hands knowing he's the only one that can accomplish what he's done without getting successfully caught. Sylar is untouchable, and he gets the bloodthirsty rush just knowing this fact.
Somewhere beyond happiness and sadness
I need to calculate
What creates my own madness
And I'm addicted to your punishment
And you're the master
And I am waiting for disaster
04. "Dark Secret" by Matthew Sweet
Sylar had always felt misunderstood, even back when he used to be Gabriel Gray; he wanted to be special, he wanted to be noticed, to be someone bigger. Bigger than society, bigger than the world and the universe, and now with his newly found powers and dark secrets swirling around inside his even darker mind, he believes he can even be bigger than God Himself.
You are sickened by the weakness
Of a heart that's filled with fear
And if the world won't understand you
You can make it disappear

And deep inside, the way you hate them
On the outside, doesn't show

05. "Overburdened" by Disturbed
Though sometimes there are moments that Sylar just doesn't understand why he's the bad guy. Doesn't everyone want to be special? Aren't these abilities sort of a gift from a higher power, telling others that they are meant to be something more in this life? And those individuals that don't want them, what are they living for anyway? Why shouldn't he take those powers away from those who don't deserve them? Why is it his job to do this, if nobody else is going to? There's a privledge to being special, an advantage that he seems to only understand better than anyone, and he will continue to dominate it.
Hell is still overburdened
I must stand and wait in line
I may never know for certain
When will be my time
How was I considered evil?
Pleasures taken in this life
Someone granted me reprieval
Decades spent in strife
Led to nothing
Repeated in my mind

06. "Bloodsport" by Sneaker Pimps
Killing and taking from those who don't deserve their abilities is what Sylar does. He has become his signature of who he is, and he feels invincible knowing this. But when he finds out that his destiny may lead him to kill innocents, people who aren't special and where he has nothing to gain from the kill. What happens then? Can he be redeemed from his wicked ways, or has he sunk too far to be saved?

He's hit that breaking point. There is no turning back now, it's now or never and he's ready to take on the whole world. Even if it kills him.
