Oh, the nostalgia.
May. 27th, 2024 01:58 amEver since The CW (now rebranded as CW) has shifted gears to be more centered around sports and less on scripted shows, I wanted to revisit the WB during its height and before the merging.
( Faces I remember, I'll still see.... )
There is also the "Oh What A Night" version which is more upbeat, but I personally prefer the "Faces / Crawl" one because there is something so emotionally wistful about it. The way it's filmed and edited, the music is soothing and matches the atmosphere of the actors being on that set taking photographs and filming for the promo, how they interact with each other especially actors from other shows, smiling, laughing. It's even more impactful now all these years later since it makes me think about to this particular time when I was really watching the WB for most of these shows.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Dawson's Creek, Roswell, Felicity, Popular, Charmed, so many of these I ended up watching, some which ultimately became a favorite. And this lineup promo demonstrates just how varied the WB network used to be, that although its primarily demographic was targeting teenagers it did range from teen dramas and paranormal shows to comedies. Just looking at all what aired on The WB throughout its existence before the merger with UPN I definitely remember and watched a lot, even if I wasn't fannish about them it was something I would catch randomly. I know The WB was still a young network at the time and the reason for the merging with UPN was become it wasn't doing well financially, you still got some pretty awesome shows from a wide variety of genres, many which were quite memorable, both culturally and on a personal level (especially ones that only lasted about one or two seasons). It's an era of television that I miss, honestly. I was literally thirteen years old when I started watching The WB, was drawn in by Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Charmed, so it truly was a huge part of my formative years.
