SPN: Human Nature of Dean Winchester

I've been watching Battlestar Galactica lately, more specifically the DVD commentaries with Ron Moore because I'm utterly fascinated listening to him speak, as just sort of my way of distracting myself from some of the more distressing parts of fandom. While I was watching and listening, I couldn't help but let my mind wander and there are some things that Ron Moore discusses that made me pause and reflect on particular things.

Mostly, it had me reevaluate my thoughts and current feelings about Supernatural.

This is where I start rambling and trying to articulate what goes on in my head as I'm trying to make sense out of things )

Forgive if this is all over the place, I'm just vomiting my thoughts. I've just been trying to make sense out of things I've been confused and angered by with this show. And of course, BSG always comes to the rescue whenever I need to step back and think about those kinds of things. Leave it to a gritty political opera in space to settle my mind on something like this, lol.

SPN: "The Man Who Would Be King" Episode Review + Meta

Forgive if this gets a little emotional, but after this episode I can't help but feel a little lengthy in reviewing certain aspects and being analytical about things. I had plenty to mull over and to really evaluate, but even after writing this I still feel like I need to discuss more to sort out my feelings about this one. Because this episode...God, this episode got to me. This is why I get so worked up over fictional character that I am so emotionally invested in, dammit.

Let me tell you my story....let me tell you everything. )

By far my favorite episode of this whole season, hands down. Epic creys with major heartache and all. I love it. ♥

Meta: An Ideal Supernatural Series Finale

Regardless on whatever the fate of this show might be, cancellation or renewal, I do have a few scenarios of my ideal ending for the series finale. Or rather how the last shot of the entire show should be, since everyone knows my ideal series finale battle: Apocalypse 2.0 that isn't anticlimactic, unsatisfactory or a huge disappointment like the last one had been, and worth everything that the show was built-up for. But in any case, for the end of the Winchesters story especially I have two specific scenarios on how I want them to go out:

Carry on my wayward son, there will be peace when you are done... )

As for the fate of Castiel, I see it happening in one of two ways. After the War in Heaven is eradicated, Castiel either goes back to Heaven but still watches over the Winchesters (in either Scenario #1 or Scenario #2) because he is still their friend after all, or Castiel decides to stay on Earth and carry out particular missions and retelling the story of the Winchester legacy. Or something to that effect. It's still being thought out on that one, but I definitely believe that Castiel will continue to be in contact with Dean and Sam no matter what happens.

Highly doubtful any of this will happen, since the show and I aren't communicating well these days. Nonetheless, this is how my ideal endgame for show plays out inside of my head, and that's how it should be done imo.

What are your thoughts or particular ideas for the series finale, oh dear flist? How would it go and what would it contain, perfect ending or bittersweet? Satisfactory or open-ended? I am genuinely curious on what other people think.

SPN: "Appointment in Samarra" Episode Review + Meta

Where Death and Tessa seriously need to be Dean's sassy gay friends... )

I actually had thinky-thoughts instead of raging capslocks, and that's a good sign. Step up from the previous episode that we can all pretend never fucking existed brainbleachplz. Have to wait until January 28th to see how the second half of the season does, and I'm praying it actually gets shit done because I'm tired of feeling frustrated with this show.

Also, yes, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kaiyote for that plotbunny suggestion, I want Tessa and Death to appear more often as Dean (and Castiel's) sassy gay friends. It's perfect, and there needs to be fic of this stat. ;p

SPN: "All Dogs Go To Heaven" Episode Review + Meta

You'd sell your brother for a dollar right now if you really needed a soda. )

Also, is it just me or have the episode titles for this show this season kind of risen to ridiculous levels? Between these, the official show score song titles and the new promos they have out now (you know, the over-photoshopped and airbrushed AU!promo), I somehow feel like it's become a parody of itself. I don't mind that the show is finally getting more publicity and all but, idk. It feels rather weird to me.

Anyone remember these promotional photoshoots from like the earlier seasons, or even this fantastic S1 promo? Whatever happened to having those, huh? Variety CW, we need some.

My true form is approximately the size of your Chrysler building )

Furthermore, aside from hearing Misha Collins' voiceover before the episode began (\O/ our bb is getting publicity hallelujah!), I read in an article somewhere that it was actually Mark Sheppard's idea for him to not be featured in the opening credits because he knew fans would appreciate being surprised right along Sam and Dean. He's one sly, smart man that Mark Sheppard, and I love him for it. ♥

SPN: "The Third Man" Episode Review + Meta

This episode really sparked up my reviewing and meta tendencies because I just absolutely loved it, which cannot be said for the first two episodes of the season, and with good reason. Didn't I say that once Castiel reappeared again everything would be made better? And it was everything I had hoped it would be, and then some.

Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray to Castiel to get his feathery ass down here. )

Ben Edlund is my hero, seriously. He saved us from headdesking another episode to smiling and being excited for the show once again. ♥ ILU BEN EDLUND, PLZ WRITE ALL THE REST OF THE EPISODES AND TAKE OVER AS SHOWRUNNER, KTHX.

Meta: Responsibility should lie where?

Okay, I've run across this argument several times in fandom regarding Castiel's involvement in the Apocalypse, and whether or not he should apologize for being somewhat responsible for what happened in the fourth season. This has come up time and again, mostly with debates about his character in general.

Here's my own opinion on this particular matter. )

Just needed to get that off my chest.

Other than that, it appears that Creation Entertainment has really pushed the Miracle Button because, come January 2011, Supernatural will be coming to San Francisco! Guys, this is literally right next door to me. \O/\O/ The main reason why I initially went to LACon was because it was the closest convention there would be without having to travel all the way across the country to go to, and lo and behold they've put them even closer. I didn't even realize it until someone on my flist mentioned it a few days ago. This is just awesome. Although come to Sacramento next, will ya guys? The only convention here is Twilight-based and that's kind of insulting, really. We need more variety.

Guess who might be going now that the offer is right in my backyard? ;D

SPN: "Swan Song" Episode Review + Meta

So, I've finally written it.

I've prolonged this since the finale aired, mostly because I needed to cool off and refrain from keyboardsmashing like crazy, and also to recollect and formulate rational thoughts based on what occurred in the said finale. Be warned there may still be some opinionated thoughts under here which may appear a bit snarkier than usual, since I am still very meh about the finale in general, but mostly I try to rationalize what happened along with my own opinions on everything as a whole. I'm sure I've already repeated what many fans have said and felt about the finale in general. I just needed to write this out because it's been nagging at my brain for a while now.

Supernatural Finale 5.22 - Swan Song )

There are certain things that I didn't mention in this review, and that's because I want to discuss them in separate posts than in my regular formatting. So yeah, if there's something I didn't address here I will address in a later meta post, for sure.

So I've had time to really think about that thing that had me worried from the episode, since I had such strong feelings about what occurred, so I discuss at length about that here. Mostly to calm my still-nervous nerves and also just to get my opinion about, especially about the show and where it's been heading this season and what I am hoping will be resolved.

SPN: "The Devil You Know" Episode Review + Meta

That's what you get for working with a demon. )

Can we just forget about a season six and just have a spin-off series with the angels/archangels, preferably with Castiel's personal journey with his family, with some added Crowley to to mix? Perhaps a little Ghostfacers for kicks? As much as I love the boys I find those backstories of such supporting characters much more compelling to watch and to be explored further than the Winchester stuff lately. Just saying.

My brain is still scattered with thoughts, but I wrote them out anyway. Might be all over the place, I don't know. I have more thoughts that I'll post later, because my brain isn't done processing everything yet. But there's some thinky-thoughts accompanied by sparkletext and gifs. ;D

I gave everything for you, and this is what you give me?! )

And because I still have to get through a ton of codas from this episode alone (ilu fandom, seriously), here's one I deeply recommend because it is just that good and guh-worthy.

SPN: "Dark Side of the Moon" Episode Review + Meta

BEWARE! VERY LONG AND VERY META-HEAVY WITH THINKY THOUGHTS AND STUFF. Needless to say, best Supernatural episode this season, y/y?

Heaven is like the Matrix and the angst just continues to build. )

God, from the mid-season finale of Caprica to this episode of Supernatural, it's like an Angst Free For All on my shows lately. My heart is going to be all shredded and stomped on with nothing left to be torn apart, goddamn. D:

But I will say, I am very impressed and happy with fandom right now because almost immediately after the episode aired there have been fics and fanarts and picspams dedicated to this entire episode. Basically, fandom pretty much is awesome because when our show doesn't provide the comfort out from the hurt from an episode we tend to create our own and that's just fucking amazing. ♥ ILU FANDOM.

SPN: "My Bloody Valentine" Episode Review + Meta

This review is incredibly meta-heavy, and I mean that. I have plenty of thinky-thoughts regarding characters from this episode and what we learned from it and how I basically interpret them. Just something to do now that we're on hiatus, which sucks but it allows me to think without being rushed before the next episode. I wrote this within a few hours after mulling over things that I wanted to talk about. But let me just say as a sidenote, after this episode I really reconsidered the things I was eating. *shudders*

Supernatural 5.14 - My Bloody Valentine )

Frakking hiatus, oh well. We have time to think and analyze things over and get prepared for the last half of the season, hopefully with minimal interruption the next go around. It just seemed like we came back from the long winter hellatus, and now we're in yet another one. Ugh.

Hey, it still doesn't beat the seven month hiatus between the first half and the second half of the final season of BSG, let me tell you. Now that was a hellatus if anything.
