Dollhouse: "Getting Closer" Episode Review + Meta

So, the reaction to Friday's Dollhouse is quite simple: shit just got real, Joss did his amazing magnificent bastard effect, mindfrakking ensued and thus fans brains s'ploded everywhere. Coherent thoughts were inactive for some time after that. But now, having the chance to rewatch the episode, I have actually formulated a proper coherent review, with my own theories and thoughts and speculations for what happened.

Relax, I'm not a thief...I'm a terrorist. )

It makes me sad that this show has been canceled. It's not a masterpiece by any means, but it has so much amazing potential and the possibilities are endless, and had FOX trusted Joss enough to allow him to take full control of this project we would've had this instead of what they started off with. That is just depressing, because it could have been amazing except for the network intervening, and this statement by them just pisses me off:
“We committed to thirteen episodes,” admits Reilly. “We told Joss going in, we’re going to air these. For whatever good moves we made in the fall. Friday isn’t the finest move of the night. Back to the drawing board on Friday’s. [DOLLHOUSE] is a good show, it had a run, but obviously, that’s that.” (Source)
"That's that", really? I want to believe that they trusted the project, and I am grateful to have had two seasons instead of a premature run, but when it comes right down to it the network seemed to not really care either way what happened. Promoting the show poorly, and rather incorrectly which is ironic in itself since the show is about the morality of exploitation behind massive corporations, and it just royally pisses me off that after everything FOX hasn't learned anything about their advertisement strategies and making room for at least attempting to get the show noticed by their audience. I understand that it's a business move, poor ratings means nobody is watching, but obviously to them, and most networks sometimes, quantity > quality. This is why you see long-running shows that are just so horrible and stupid and the more worthwhile, better quality shows are left out in the dirt to suffer unknown or doomed fates.

Obviously, with the exception of Fringe, science fiction is not the demographic for the FOX network. I kinda wished they had paired Dollhouse with that show, because it would have gotten more attention to those interested in such a genre. That would have been a smart move, but alas FOX isn't known for being smart.

And this is why I love Joss Whedon, sfm.

Last night's Dollhouse was absolutely fucking legendary, I can't even begin to explain it. Yet I will, because that's how I roll.

Behold, the Dollhouse Scoobies was then formed, and all was frakking epic and glorious )

And this is precisely why FOX SUCKS. AGAIN. BECAUSE WHEN YOU HAVE AMAZING SHIT LIKE THIS AND CRITICS RAVING ABOUT IT YOU SHOULD KEEP IT ON THE AIR. NOT CANCEL IT YOU FUCKTARDS. UGH. FUCK YOUR RATINGS SYSTEM IN THE ASS.

"I know a conspiracy when I desperately try to avoid seeing one."

My entire sleep schedule is all fucked up. For the last two days I've spent nearly the entire day, waking up just shy of a few hours before my regular bedtime would normally be. I'm not getting sick, that I know for sure, the only other indicator would be getting on my period but it doesn't usually call for sleeping hours of the day. So I have no idea what is going on with me. Or if it's just my body saying "HEY YOU GOTTA GET MORE SLEEP!" But I don't know.

[livejournal.com profile] ohbooth, [livejournal.com profile] trinaweena and [livejournal.com profile] fresleyforever, I received your Christmas cards! Awww, ilu guys, you're so sweet. ♥

By the way, I'm going to be sending cards out shortly. I haven't had time to because of some real life stuff and what I said above about my outta-whack sleep schedule which has placed me in this lethargic mode. But hopefully they'll be sent out and get to all those who gave me your addresses in time before Christmas. Don't worry!

I missed Dollhouse last night, mainly because I slept through it. But I downloaded the two episodes and here are my thoughts:

UM EPIC SHIT JUST GOT EPIC, Y'ALL )

God, I love this show.

Also, does anyone else think that Alan Tudyk could have been an excellent Lucifer? It's the suit from the episode, for some reason I see him either being a very fashionable and slightly off-his-rocker demon or Lucifer. Hmmm. What about a Lucifer and Alpha confrontation? Oh, I like that idea. SOMEONE GIVE ME CROSSOVER FIC ASAP OF THIS! ;D

Dollhouse versus Dollhouse

OH MY FRAKKING GOD.

I think her bad guys are badder than our bad guys )

Now THIS is pure Joss Whedon, utterly and completely Joss Whedon right here. This is what should have been done with the show since the beginning, instead of FOX trying to control things because having more of these inner-mythology suspenseful episodes is far more interesting than episodic engagements. If anything, Dollhouse should have started with this dark stuff right off the bat, because it would have drawn in more viewers with the suspense and intrigue. Unfortunately, it didn't. I'm sad it'll be ending, and feel that these back-to-back two-hour episodes are more of FOX's way of getting rid of the show.

But I still love it, love the direction its heading and the complexities it holds. And from the previews for the next two episodes, it's going to be quite a doozy.

Holy Mother of God and all her wacky nephews...

Amazing. Phenomenal. Absolutely fantastic and such a brilliant episode of Dollhouse, I am not even joking right now.

Perhaps one of the best episodes to date, amirite? )

Yes, shameless pimping of the show. But it's going on hiatus until after November sweeps, which in my opinion is ridiculously long, therefore in order to gain more viewers for their statistical roundups it's best to get the word out because this season? Is rocking so hard that even the skeptics from before are getting into it. Seriously.

Creepy Dollhouse was effing creepy...

And I really, really liked it. )

Even though I've seen it I'm going to be watching it on Hulu. Repeatedly. Want those ratings to go up for this episode because, wow. Kudos, Whedon. Much kudos to you, good sir. Continue to be dark and twisted and creepy with Dollhouse, because it is working and I am LOVING IT!

People, you need to watch this show. Seriously. Whatever people said about it before, all the pessimistic comments about how the first season sucks and it's not up to par with Joss's other works and blahblah-frakking-blah, forget about it. This season is going in a whole different direction, the way it should have gone before. And with Joss Whedon finally taking full action, you know it's going to be absolutely fucking epic, for serious.

Your Ken can kiss my Barbie!

++ New Caprica SciFi promo, which has unseen exclusive clips from the series that not the pilot movie. I honestly am excited, I loved the pilot, love the cast, and I can't wait to see what's in store for what's to come.

++ Review for Dollhouse 2.02 - Instinct )

I also want to talk about ratings for Dollhouse. From all the "save Dollhouse" campaigns and people praising it, getting others to watch it and even making petitions and critics waiting for the second season to premiere, the ratings have been lower than last season. What the hell, people? Where the fuck are you, after all this fighting for it to be renewed and for FOX not do be dickheads about it, and the ratings are fucking dropping? Fuck that shit. I'm also hearing that TSCC fans are so bitter about their show being canceled that they are purposefully not supporting Dollhouse. I mean, okay, I loved TSCC too and I'm sad it's gone, but get the fuck over your childish bullshit and stop being so butthurt. Jesus Christ on a cracker, this is ridiculous.

Needless to say, the ratings system still blows. [livejournal.com profile] blank_dolls has provided ways of supporting and helping boost up ratings for the show, so please spread this information around.

++ I've been catching up on Bones recently, just had a marathon of season four and my God, can this show be any cuter? Booth/Brennan are so much love, their bantering and are totally opposite yet perfect for each other. But it's one of those shows where if the two main characters get together romantically then it's the end of the show, hence the UST between them. And I love David Boreanaz as Booth...I think way better than Angel, to be honest. Because Booth isn't some brooding vampire with a soul, and he can be goofy as well as badass. Hee.

"I remember everything..."

I'm still in the middle of writing up my review/meta for Supernatural, which is taking longer than I thought without going into massive flailing. However tonight was the return of Dollhouse with its second season premiere, and I just thought I'd mention a few things about it.

Did I fall asleep?....For a little while. )

I am so happy that this show is back, and even happier that FOX is not going to be intruding like how they did last season. I trust Joss in the direction he's going with everything, and from the unaired episode to this premiere I am anticipating more especially for what's in store for these characters and their stories. So, yay, Dollhouse is back! \o/

Dollhouse: "Epitaph One" Episode Review + Meta

I really do miss doing these reviews, so frakking much. Oh summer hiatus, why must you be so slow?

Kids playing with matches, and they burnt the house down. )

I love this show, seriously. While this episode was unaired it will be screened at this year's Comic Con, for all that are going to the Dollhouse panel. There has been some talk that FOX might also be airing it after all, though it's unclear about when and where or if this is actually true at all. Either way, this episode really adds more of the mythology into focus for all those that stopped watching way too earlier into the season. So if you haven't yet, download the episode and watch for yourself. Same with the unaired pilot, too. All I can say is, this is pure Joss Whedon, through and through.

Dollhouse: "Omega" Episode Review + Meta

I have thirty-eight brains, not one of them thinks you can sign a contract to be a slave )

Wishes, hopes and expectations for the possible future for Dollhouse )

There's also some talk about how the thirteenth unaired episode, "Epitaph One", could be used as a spin-off? A great notion however how would that be if Dollhouse hadn't done great in winning over high ratings? I would prefer having this have a second season, but heh, I can take what I can get as long as Joss and Eliza stick together with this project because dammit, we need this story to continue being told.

Dollhouse: "Briar Rose" Episode Review + Meta

The Prince had finally rescued the Princess from the deep sleep... )

People need to start watching this show. Either start watching in real time or to Fox.com or Hulu or whatever, don't just download elsewhere because I think that's the main problem. Many people think that it's just their fan reactions but it's not, FOX is big on statistics and if the ratings aren't up to par with those expectations they will pull the plug regardless of a growing fanbase and positive critic responses. But the ratings systems fails in general, so heh.

I am now off to finish up some schoolwork that I need to get done with.

Dollhouse: "Haunted" Episode Review + Meta

How many chances does one get to attend their own funeral? )

This also concludes that there are only two episodes left, three if they keep with the thirteen aired episodes, but with the speculated rumors of going back and forth I do think we do have only two left. Bummer. FOX PLZ RENEW THIS SHOW OTHERWISE THERE WILL BE BLOOD! I AM SRS HERE.

Dollhouse: "A Spy in the House of Love" Episode Review + Meta

We all have our needs, we all have our secrets )

Two weeks without Dollhouse? Blasphemy! Let's hope people will remember to watch it when it returns. That's the fear I have sometimes, that if there's a prolonged hiatus sometimes people won't pay attention to dates and times and will bypass it completely.

Must go watch TSCC because I accidentally missed it by over-napping this evening, as it's the season (and hopefully not series) finale.

Dollhouse: "Needs" Episode Review + Meta

Is that what you think you're doing here? Taking away basic human rights? My right to choose, feel, remember? )

In related news, it appears that there are high hopes for Dollhouse in regards of being renewed for another season, especially since there's been a boosting in DVR ratings. It's not definite yet, it still needs confirmation from the network, but I'm staying optimistic. Unfortunately, it doesn't look that great for TSCC as it appears the season finale this Friday may be the last episode ever if there is no sign of possible renewal for a third season. The plan seems to be that if all this ends up becoming true, FOX will move House to where TSCC used to be and move Dollhouse onto Monday nights, where I kinda wanted it to be all along.

The thing is, despite the disappointment in hearing about the low ratings TSCC is getting I can understand the sacrifice; the Terminator mythos is neverending, it's a timeless story and this was only one branch of that mythology. However Dollhouse is a bright and shiny new show which an interesting and unique story to tell that if canceled Joss will never be able to tell it in his own brilliant creative mind. Save one, sacrifice the other. I would prefer FOX keep both shows, but y'know, you can't win everything.

Dollhouse: "Man on the Street" Episode Review + Meta

I'm doing this before tonight's episode, quite frankly. I didn't get a chance to watch this one in real time because of the BSG finale, and downloading came a bit later, but nevertheless I've compiled my thoughts and meta on the show thus far.

The Dollhouse deals with fantasy. That is their business, but it's not their purpose. )

I also want to direct people to this little video just to show how adorable the cast is. Unique names are unique, and adorable cast is just too damn cute for words. Plus, Eliza is so adorkable I can barely stand it. *g*

I'm not broken... )

I am so in love with this show you guys, you have no idea. I know people were wary at first and that's understandable, but if you dropped it because it didn't fit to your expectations you quit too damn soon. It's only getting better and better every episode, and plus they said that things pick up much faster after what, episode six or something? So yeah. It's different, but it's the good kind of different, if y'know what I mean.

Dollhouse: "Stage Fright" Episode Review + Meta

You can fire me but, bitch, don't think you can take me! )

I've decided to do regular episode reviews for Dollhouse, since this is the kind of show that requires weekly observations and meta because of its content and material for deep-thinking, whether others believe so or not. I'm just really loving this show and it's improving with each episode, and I think that's great even if ratings aren't agreeing with that (c'mon y'all, start watching!) Nevertheless, hello new fandom!

I also watching TSCC and I also enjoyed it, as well. Very trippy and kept me guessing, through me through loops in not knowing what was real and what wasn't, and the return of Sarah VOs, yay! A great way to look into her psyche as well.

You can't fight a ghost...

So, Dollhouse finally premiered last night as did the return of TSCC, and I have to say that mixed with BSG makes for an epic night of television. I'm still contemplating whether to do epic review posts for them, as I know I'll be doing some meta regarding Dollhouse for sure because of the news buzz surrounding it, but here are my reactions nonetheless:

Dollhouse 1.01 - Ghost )

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles 2.14 - The Good Wound )

Fridays nights are gonna be the busiest concerning my fandoms, oh Lordy. *is ded*
