How do you measure a year in the life?

I want this year to end on a positive note. So here are just some of the things that happened this year which have made me happy.

01. I was gifted surprise tickets to an advanced screening of Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, my first advanced screening ever and it was a lovely experience and I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity.

02. Because of Fantastic Beasts, I was introduced to Colin Farrell. No explanation needed other than, yes please and thank you. (◕‿◕)♡

03. Also, Percival Graves. ♥ ♥ ♥

04. Getting back into my swimming routine, which I unfortunately took time off from for a brief period of time for personal reasons, something I regretted. But getting back into it reminded me just how much I love swimming.

05. YouTubers, particularly (but not limited to): Markiplier, Game Grumps, Nikki Limo, Lilly Singh and The Gabbie Show. I know it may sound ridiculous to anyone who doesn't keep up with this kind of stuff, but I've been following YouTubers for several years now and these are just a few of the people who I've been following that entertain and bring me joy. They make me laugh and are genuinely awesome individuals who are just doing what they love, and I often get inspired by them.

06. LEGO video games. They're simplistic, but fun, adorable and addictive.

07. Deadpool, for introducing me to everything Deadpool.

08. Fandom, for being my main source of escapism during this rough year. It's always my source of escapism, immersing myself into a fictional world or getting attached to certain characters or loving certain pairings, communicating with like-minded people about these things, but this year it particular I really needed it and it has kept me mostly sane through the difficult times.

09. Not just the beautiful story of Carmilla wrapping up its third and final season (with the upcoming feature film later in 2017), but hearing Natasha Negovanlis and Elise Bauman singing their acoustic rendition of the theme song, "Love Will Have Its Sacrifices", was something absolutely special and magical.

10. Online friendships. Connecting with people. I love you all and I wouldn't be here without your love and support throughout the years. ♥

11. Went to Disneyland over the summer and got to visit with my aunt and some of my cousins, who I haven't seen in quite some time.

So, my lovely flist, what made you happy in 2016?

2016 was good for me too! It had some bad moments, but overall a very positive year and I feel very thankful for that.

I'm happy that you were happy! I wish you more sexy Colin Farrell, more fandom, more swimming and more love, happy new year!

This year has been mostly blah for me, a mixture of stress and dread based on the happenings of the world, but I really wanted to focus on the positive things instead in this post. I feel like so many are focusing on the negative which overshadows the good that have occurred.

Thank you. :) Wishing you a good 2017.

My writing made me happy ^_^

I really want to see Fantastic Beasts but haven't had the chance yet!

[identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com 2017-01-01 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
That's good. :) I've found some inspiration in writing, as well. Mostly brainstorming and rough drafts, but certain aspects of fandom have rekindled a certain spark. My headcanoning and outlining background/storylines have been through the roof lately.

I really enjoyed Fantastic Beasts. I hope you get the chance to see it soon before it leaves theaters (whenever that may be, idk how these things work).

Despite all of the bad this year, I wrote 150k and my niece was born. So it wasn't all bad.

Hope 2017 is good to you! <3

[identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com 2017-01-01 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
That's awesome! Congrats!

And yeah, I feel like so much of the bad often overshadows the good that happens, which is what most tend to focus on. I feel like once you write out all the good, positive things that have happened you (and to others) it places things in perspective a bit.

Wishing you a good 2017, as well. :)

Yay for good things :)

And hopefully more come in the future.

This is a good post; thank you for making it! It's good to remember the stuff that was nice about this year.

Fandom was also good to me this year. I wrote some fic I'm pretty happy with. Banshee wrapped up in a satisfying way, with more of the cast than I'd have guessed surviving. I loved almost all of season 2 of Agent Carter. The Lin Manuel Miranda episode of Drunk History was a delight. My favorite wrestler won a number of significant matches and had storylines that let him be both tenacious iron woobie and cheerfully irreverent goofball at various points. <3

[identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com 2017-01-01 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
Awww, thank you for the nice compliment. :D

The Drunk History episode with Lin-Manuel Miranda was adorably hilarious, and awesome because they had Alia Shawkat as Alexander Hamilton and Aubrey Plaza as Aaron Burr, it made the entire episode, imho. And I miss Agent Carter.

Loved Fantastic Beasts too, and I'm looking forward to the next film!

Happy 2017! <3

Happy New Year!

Anime and books made me happy. :-)

2016 was though on my personal life, but not as bad as it could have! I wasn't able to spend time with my husband and that was the worst thing! I did a lot of good things and good things happened to me too!

- Spent a lot of quality time with my family and spent Christmas home after 6 years.
- Read a lot of great books, watched a lot of good moves and shows,...
- Came back to LJ after years and put an effort in it.
- Started making music videos again.
- Learnt to play my favorite song (and a lot of other ones).
- Got an iMac.
- Quit the worst job ever, and worked for a month a job I've never did before (that made me learn a lot and gave me back some of the confidence I lost with my previous one.

And so much more!

:D

I'm glad your Year was good!!!

[identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com 2017-01-03 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad that you had a pretty good year, yourself, despite not spending as much time with your husband as you would've liked. Sometimes certain things can be beyond our control, but that's when we need to make the effort of creating our own happiness.

[identity profile] verdande-mi.livejournal.com 2017-01-01 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Many good things here <3 <3

My happy things: My friend getting married and she and her husband being so happy and having a great day, fandom in general, planning a trip to London with my nephew and niece and I very much enjoyed my x-mas break off from work and mostly with no school work.

Hope the new year is a good one for you :)

[identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com 2017-01-03 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
Yay for your happy things. :)

I'm hoping 2017 is good for you, as well. ♥

Number 10 for the win!

And I re-discovered my love of comics.

[identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com 2017-01-02 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Online friendships are the best. It is often overlooked by people, I think, but having connections with people online can help even in the most difficult of times, where we share excitement over things and can vent out our frustrations and lend a sympathetic ear and offer advice. I honestly wouldn't be here if it wasn't for some of the amazing people I have connected with over the years. ♥

And yay for rediscovering your love of comics! :D

Glad there were some good things about this year for you! =)

Mine was actually good. I passed my certification exam, went on a few vacations. Overall not a bad year!

[identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com 2017-01-02 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm happy that this year brought some positive and happy things to you, as well. ♥

Working with great people on everything Shakespeare has made me happy :) Spending time with family was also a big plus to 2016.

What wonderful things!

Fandom is definitely cathartic, the best form of escapism and to kind of take a break from reality for a time. Speaking with online friends is also another, because we can vent to each other about things that I wouldn't otherwise feel comfortable doing with others IRL. And I am deeply appreciative of that. :)

Happy 2017 to you, as well! ♥

Oh, man, Deadpool.

[identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com 2017-01-02 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Interestingly, I had no knowledge about Deadpool until I saw the film, and now I'm just living in it, lol. ♥

In many ways he is such an embodiment of the 90s, and in other ways he is such a narrative treasure. I have long adored 'Pool.

[identity profile] 4kennedy.livejournal.com 2017-01-02 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
It's a lovely idea to only think and post about things that made you happy in 2016 <3
Fandom, writing and online friendships also helped me to get through a tough year.

[identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com 2017-01-02 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I think with all the pessimism and hopelessness and sadness people have been feeling lately, it's a good thing to at least list and acknowledge the better things that have happened, to focus more on the positive rather than the negative. :)

[identity profile] giallarhorn.livejournal.com 2017-01-03 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Happy 2017! But yeah, 2016 was kind of a weird year since it was a kind of shit year on a global scale, but I think on a more personal level a lot of people came out ahead?

Heh, the best way I've heard the Lego games described is that they're like X, but only with Legos.

[identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com 2017-01-03 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think the majority felt the sense of dread and hopelessness mostly due to things that were beyond our control, but in our own lives, with the things we can control, it was kinda okay. We all have individual things that make us happy, that bring us joy, so to reflect on those things it makes an overall shitty year seem less shitty on that personal level.

The LEGO games are just so much fun. I found myself playing more of those games in 2016 than any other video game I currently have at the moment.

Awww, that's amazing and really sweet. :) I really need to reconnect with old friends I haven't seen in forever. I've been meaning to do that for a while, actually, especially with childhood friends.

[identity profile] batmarg.livejournal.com 2017-01-06 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
And to think FBAWTFT didn't enter our lives till the end of the year, but still made such a fannish impact. Still one of the best things I discovered this year.

10. Online friendships. Connecting with people. I love you all and I wouldn't be here without your love and support throughout the years. ♥
Yes! *HUGS*

[identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com 2017-01-07 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
For real, though. I honestly didn't expect Percival Graves to be the biggest highlight of the year for me, fandom-wise. I was already intrigued with the character from the trailers and then I further fell in love with him with each passing moment, and has become my biggest obsession lately. And Colin Farrell, such a blessing, both in FBAWTFT and in general. ♥

*hugs* :D

[identity profile] tigtogiba34.livejournal.com 2017-01-15 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh Dear you didn't know Colin before that movie!!! Wow. I feel for you ♥ better late than never though! Colin and I go back to SWAT.

[identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com 2017-01-16 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
lol, yeah. I mean, I definitely knew of him but he wasn't that much on my radar. The only thing I ever saw him in before FBAWTFT was Daredevil, and that was it really. But now that I have finally noticed him (and have a thirst, not even ashamed) I'm going to be going through his filmography, from the good to the bad, and see what I've been missing. ;)
