BOWTIES: THEY ARE COOL.

I am so in love with Doctor Who right now, you guys have no idea.

Like okay, first let me explain. I was first introduced to DW with the Ninth Doctor, and since then I've been watching episodes, kind of sporadically but still enjoying it nonetheless. I go back and forth with certain fandoms so I sort of left DW alone for a while but still liked episodes that I managed to catch. But come Matt Smith and the Eleventh Doctor, I AM SO IN LOVE WITH THE SHOW. I LOVE EVERYTHING FROM THE CHARACTERS (AMY, RORY, RIVER AND THE DOCTOR) TO THE WIBBLY WOBBLY TIMEY WIMEY AND SPACEY WACEY-NESS OF IT ALL. JUST MARATHONED BOTH SERIES FIVE AND SERIES SIX AND THEY WERE BOTH AMAZING AND OMG I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE CHRISTMAS SPECIAL AND SERIES SEVEN.

ALSO. MATT SMITH IS ADORKABLE. AS IS KAREN GILLAN.

THIS HAS BEEN A DOCTOR WHO SQUEE POST. IF YOU WATCH PLEASE SQUEE WITH ME BECAUSE ASKDFJ;ALSFJD;LASFKD SHOWWWWW!

I will rec you the Doctor/River 6.13 meta to end all metas.

[identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
That is one big brilliant meta of all metas. *__* Like seriously, I love reading metas and that right there is the best one I've seen because it encompasses a lot of what I love about DW. The parallels, the plotting, the storylines and interweaving of characters and the timey wimey stuff they deal with, and of course, the genius of Moffat.

(like srsly, I didn't realize it before I read that meta that "The Curse of the Black Spot" was a huge metaphor and just yeah omg)

She has a lot of good meta, but I don't usually read because I'm not super into DW. But yeah, for the 6.13 ep, I was like I AM READING ALL THE META. She also has a lot of DW recs and other good stuff, so poke around on her journal if you have time.

I'm just impressed that I now sort of understand the connection between the exploding Tardis and the Silence and What Will Be Coming Next. That meta was awesome.

So LJ ate my first comment where I squeed and rambled and flailed but it can all be summed up with:

ELEVENTY/RIVER/AMY/RORY = THEY ARE ALL BRILLIANT AND ADORABLE AND I LOVE THEM!!!!!

Also, I think I have a few fic recs, should you want them. And I know I have lots and lots and lots of vid recs :)

THE MAGNIFICENT GLORIOUS PONDS AND THEIR DOCTOR. LOVE LOVE LOVE. ♥

I have enjoyed the previous seasons of the show, with Nine and Ten, but there's something so....magical about Eleven and the characters involved with his seasons. The storylines, how it all connects with each other, the emotional points of their stories. I find myself becoming attached to them. Attached to Amy and Rory, to River and the Doctor, to how everything unfolds so wonderfully and how we have this continued arc with the mysterious Silence. I just love it all.

[identity profile] mfirefly10.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 08:09 am (UTC)(link)
I...had some issues with series 6, mostly about the lack of emotional consequences for everything the Ponds went through + that they'll seemingly never get to raise bb!Melody, but I still adore Eleventy's era on the whole.

I've liked all of New!Who (still haven't gotten around to watching the classic Doctors) but I didn't LOVE it until Eleventy. I think because I never really LOVED any of the Doctors until 11. 9 + 10 were fine but I never felt like they were MY Doctors and was mostly invested in their seasons for the companions. But pretty much right from the start, Eleven felt like MY Doctor and I just adore him, even when he does really sketchy things. Add in River + the Ponds and I was IN LOVE ♥

I can understand that. Parts of me wants them to explore more into all of that as well, mostly with the aftermath of losing bb!Melody. Because seriously, how traumatizing was that? I cried so hard during that episode. :(

As a whole though, I think the Eleventh Doctor years have been my absolute favorite. ♥

[identity profile] mfirefly10.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Series 6 had some of the best episodes of New!Who, imo, but they were...sullied a bit by the lack of bb!Melody/River fallout. Like 'The Girl Who Waited' = Utterly FANTASTIC episode but it KILLED me that no one mentioned how older!Amy missed all those years with Melody/River. And there was such an easy fix if only the two Amy's had shared 'Melody' as their one thought, but for some reason, the writers chose not to explore any of that. So, yeah...I was a bit disappointed in the lack of follow-through for all the emotional trauma these characters went through.

That being said, 11-era Who is still my favorite and probably always will be ♥

[identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com 2011-10-26 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Not just that but I've always wondered about Rory's state of mind after waiting 2,000 years. I mean, I know this is now the rebooted universe and all but, quite frankly he still remembers it, even if sometimes he pushes it down. I kinda want to know how it really affected him, psychologically and emotionally. One could argue that his love for Amy kept him going, but I would just like to explore more of that. You know?

But yeah, ITA with you. This has been the best DW era for me. :)

[identity profile] mfirefly10.livejournal.com 2011-10-26 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly! Like, there's so much stuff from series 5 that was never dealt with and series 6 just pilled more on top of it and it's like...can we please see how ANY of this is affecting these characters?! It doesn't take away from my love of the show but it makes me realize that the show could be even BETTER if Moffat wasn't so afraid to go to those darker emotional places.

[identity profile] twisting-vine-x.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Tbph, I will always be a Ten/Rose girl, but at the same time, I can so appreciate how absolutely fucking awesome Eleven is... and oh my god, River - I don't even know where to start when it comes to her. So, so, sooo much love. ♥

[identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
River is seriously awesome. My love for her just grows and grows and grows. ♥

I will never understand the intense hate River seems to get by certain people. Then again, I'll never understand the intense hatred all the companions seem to get amongst the fandom. I love them all for different reasons, as they are all so fierce and awesome in their own ways.

[identity profile] twisting-vine-x.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 05:43 am (UTC)(link)

this x 1,000,000! Why the fandom majority is convinced you can only love one or two of them is BEYOND me. I adore each and every one, including sometimes-companions like River + Mickey. Jack's the only one I have any issues with and that's fallout from where his character went on Torchwood.

[identity profile] stillglows.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 02:53 am (UTC)(link)

To be honest Eleven is what got me flat out obsessed with Doctor Who. I had seen the Eccleston season, and bits and pieces of Tennants ("Blink," oh my God, "Blink!").

MATT SMITH NEEDS ALL THE AWARDS!

[identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
I'm the same way.

I have shows that I enjoy to watch but am not obsessive over, and that was Doctor Who for me before Matt Smith came along. Somehow his Doctor, combined with Moffat's genius manner of storytelling, have just captivated more than any other season has. That's not knocking on the rest of the Doctors of course, they are also brilliant in their own ways, but there's something about this current Doctor that is just so fantastical. You know? To me, Matt Smith is my Doctor.

[identity profile] stillglows.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
I am so with you. I adore Eccleston, and I wish more than anything he did a longer run as the Doctor. There is just something about Eleven which captivated me and wouldn't let me look away for a minute. Before him, I kept thinking how silly it was people got so upset when the Doctor changed, but now I understand it. Hearing Matt talk about how he wants to go to Hollywood terrifies me because I don't want him to leave. Like you he is my Doctor, and he is just...to quote Nine, fantastic.

[identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, I wished we could have gotten more Eccleston as well. It's such a shame and quite sad because almost nobody gives Nine the credit he deserves. :(

I'm hearing rumors that series seven might be Matt Smith's last time being the Doctor, and it feels my heart with dread and sadness. I don't want him to go! D: Like yeah, I understand regenerating is the thing for the Doctor and it's nothing new but still, when you get attached to your Doctor it's hard to let him go. I just recently fell in love with Matt Smith and to let him go is rather sad thing to think about. I want there to be more than just three series of one incarnation of the Doctor, like with the older Whos. Tom Baker played the Fourth Doctor for seven years. Why can't there be a little bit more extension for the newer Doctors? Perhaps contracts and whatnot, but still.

yes I realize I'm being selfish but idc I love Matt Smith as the Doctor okay

[identity profile] philstar22.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
I really need to finish seasons 3 and 4 so I can get to season 5. I've watched about 2/3 the way through season 3, but there were a couple boring episodes so I got bored with the show. But everything I've heard says it just gets better, and I really need to keep going.

[identity profile] philstar22.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Although, I think I might be doing something wrong because everyone seems to ship something or another, and I can't ship the Doctor with anyone. Both 9 and 10 seem pretty un-shippable to me because I can't see them in a long-term relationship. I'm not sure if that makes me a bad fan or not, but I love this show for things besides shipping. And also, I love Rose and Martha equally.

[identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
To be fair, in my opinion you can start watching series five and six without even have watched the previous ones since it kind of starts off anew, in a way. All there is to know is that the Doctor is just a madman with a box who starts his new adventure after regenerating. There's actually a little bit of a split amongst the DW fandom about whether RTD's run of DW is better than Moffat's current run (which happens to be S5 and S6) so it's up to personal interpretation of that.

(I'm also saying this because I haven't really watched all of Tennant's episodes -- I have enjoyed the show before but what made me LOVE it was with Moffat and Matt Smith as the Doctor, because it's the kinds of stories interweaving with a serialized mystery arc that I love in my shows)

Oh, and without spoiling anything for you I will say this: I never really shipped the Doctor and never understood the shipping wars (or hating of the companions, since I adore them all equally as well). But in S5 and S6 there is something of a ~profound bond~ between the Doctor and another that is quite beyond anything else.

[identity profile] philstar22.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
I might try that. Because while I love Martha, 10 isn't doing it for me the same way 9 did. Season 2 was good because Rose was still there and there was more continuity with season 1. But I love 9 so much more than I do 10. Maybe I'll love 11 too.

[identity profile] mfirefly10.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 08:22 am (UTC)(link)
*butts in again*

lol, and you liked 9 more than 10? *offers you a chair in this teeny section of Who fandom*

[identity profile] philstar22.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 08:28 am (UTC)(link)
It is weird because I really, really love Tennant. Bu5 while 10 is awesome, 9 and season 1 are still my favorite. I wonder how 9 and Martha would have gotten along.

[identity profile] mfirefly10.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
I think part of my...non-love for 10 is that everyone hyped him up as 'OMG, BEST DOCTOR EVER!!!' and...yeah...I just didn't feel that way about him. I think the first season had some problems but I overlooked most of that because I really liked 9.

And it definitely would've been interesting to see 9 with another companion. I mean, Mickey + Jack were there for a bit but I would've liked to see how 9 worked with a different full-time companion. I think he would've gotten on well with Martha but then again, I find it hard to imagine that anyone WOULDN'T get along with Martha :)

[identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 12:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the first season had some problems but I overlooked most of that because I really liked 9.

I think Nine is vastly overlooked in general, which is sad because he was my introduction to the series in the first place. It's sad that almost nobody gives Nine the credit he deserves. Ten is great, Tennant did a lovely job, but yeah people have over-hyped him and praise him for being omgwowtheonlybestDoctahevah!1 to such obnoxious levels, so that was quite a turn-off. Never mind that his Doctor got a bit too angsty in places for my tastes.

I wished Eccleston stuck around a little longer, because I would also have loved to see him interact with other companions as well. *sigh*

[identity profile] mfirefly10.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Never mind that his Doctor got a bit too angsty in places for my tastes.

THIS. Just...Especially in the specials between series 4 + 5. So much ~angst and, tbh, it got a bid old toward the end.

I loved Eccleston's take on the Doctor and I would've loved to have seen how his Doctor grew over time :(

[identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com 2011-10-26 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
I heard someone say that RTD just broke the Doctor on many levels towards the end, but Moffat was the one who repaired him. I think that's interesting and, imo, very true. Because while Eleven has his share of angst, it wasn't as overwhelming as it was with Ten and is often balanced with optimism and hope.

(another thing is how upbeat Eleven's theme is (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I80pc9jZ_t8), every time it plays in an episode I get ridiculously happy)

[identity profile] mfirefly10.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 08:19 am (UTC)(link)
*butts in*

I maybe could've shipped 9/Rose if 9 had lasted more than a season because I felt a bit of the shippery chemistry there but it needed more development. I never shipped 10 with anyone, except maybe a random guest star here or there. And I LOVE when other people love Rose + Martha equally because SO many people think you have to choose between them and just...No, you don't!

None of those things make you a bad fan at all, but they definitely put you in the smaller minority as most Who fans count 10/Rose as their OTP and I'd say a good number of fans dislike at least one of the main companions.

[identity profile] philstar22.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 08:25 am (UTC)(link)
I'm all for people shipping what they want. And I saw chemistry between Rose and both 9 and 10. It is just that I don't think the Doctor is suitable for long-term romances. I remember laughing in the episode where Sarah Jane said he spoiled her for other men because I was thinking that while he is an awesome man and awesome at what he does, when it comes to being boyfriend material, I just don't see it. And in fact, in that very episode she talks about how he never came back for her, and yet she still saw him as better than other men. Anyway,s basically, he isn't the settling down type in my mind.

: Needs to find some good Who icons:

[identity profile] mfirefly10.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 08:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, with 9/Rose, I saw it more as a passing thing than anything long-term. Whereas, I never really saw the romantic chemistry between 10/Rose, though they made a fantastic team. Tbh, there's only ever been one character I could see long-term potential with for any of the Doctors.

Rory Williams in a Good Man Goes to War.

That is all

Oh God, that episode. There is so much love for that episode alone I can't even. And I never loved Rory more, from his fierce protection and dedication in finding Amy to him carrying Melody and crying and just, ugh. Everything.

RORY WILLIAMS APPRECIATION. ♥

YAY! It's so nice seeing a lot of Doctor Who nerds on my flist. I haven't talked about it much in the past so bringing it up now and seeing so many being active in the fandom makes me happy. :D :D :D

[identity profile] fate-incomplete.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 10:59 am (UTC)(link)
GOD YES!!! I fell in love with Eleven so damn quick it was almost scary. He's such a flirt it is impossible not to fall for him. I just love his face, it is so emotive, the bastard made me cry so many times in season 6. I love Amy, Rory and River, it is an awesome show and cast.

I'm still catching up on Ten's episodes, but Eleven is the Doctor for me. He kinda owns me at the moment, can't wait till my DW dvds get here in a few days so I can rewatch it.

[identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 12:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It's interesting that you say that Eleven has made you cry because that's the same with me. I haven't cried (whether in sadness or happiness) with any other version of the Doctor as much as I have while watching Eleven's episodes. S5 and S6 had the most tears for me, and idk what it is, but on an emotionally level I just get so sucked in and the stories are told so well that you end up getting attached. ♥

[identity profile] fate-incomplete.livejournal.com 2011-10-25 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Eleven has made me cry more often than any other show I can think of, which really surprised me. There is just something about the way Matt portrays the Doctor. On the surface Matt looks so young and kinda weird, which was the impression I had from the few photos I saw before I started watching. But he brings so much emotion, and really gets across the age and weariness of the character, of how much he cares despite the spacey wacey face he puts on. He really gets that age across yet at the same time has that wonderful childlike wonder and energy. Its intoxicating. Both Matt and the writers have really shown that darker side of him too, how much he loathes himself, how much he affects those he cares for. It has been a wonderful storyline over series 5 and 6. Everything works about it, I love the pace and tension, mixed with humour and emotion, I love how the story has been unfolding over the 2 series. Moffatt is a wonderful writer and has really made me fall for DW again. I can't wait for the Christmas special, but the long wait till series 7 returns is just cruel.

Don't even get me started on shipping with Eleven. I could ship him with a cupboard *points to gif above*

OMG, YOUR WHO WATCHING IS THE SAME AS MINE! :D I've been watching random episodes (and Torchwood) since the reboot, but 11 is the first Doctor I've been really in love with.

ALSO BEST COMPANIONS EVER.

OMG I KNOW RIGHT? There's just something about Eleven that is just so...the Doctor. Matt Smith really adds a lot to the character. ♥

AND YES! THE GLORIOUS PONDS = BEST COMPANIONS. :D :D :D
