Day 16 - An episode that scared you

Oddly, I don't find get scared while watching Supernatural. At all. There's the occasional freaky and gross-out moments here and there, the former mostly during the earlier seasons, but nothing that outright scared or terrified me or even remotely spook me to the point where I'm scarred for life. Personally, I love horror and thrillers in general. Like, I seriously thrive off of these kinds of genres, I'm addicted to them. So really, I'm totally desensitized to whatever this show does in terms of what it describes as "scary."

I mean come on, I watch Miike Takashi films for goodness sakes. His work makes Supernatural look like a harmless puppy in comparison.

Violence while making me uncomfortable doesn't scare but something gross? Ew!

There are certain things that can be squirky on this show, particularly in these later seasons since they don't seem to have the legit scary-suspenseful episodes as they used to, but I don't know. That kind of gross-out factor never really bothers me.

Again, perhaps I'm just so used to viewing that kind of material in the other things I've watched that I've also become desensitized to it. Perhaps I'm just weird like that? idk lol

You watch Miike? *bows in humble awe* I can't even read plot summaries of those movies.

SPN doesn't scare me much...I think some of the S1 eps did, because I am a huge pussy and horror movie tropes push all my buttons so easily. Also "Family Remains" because people living in the walls is like my all-time biggest asdahsdlkgh DO NOT WANT EEEEEEEEEE phobia. But SPN hasn't even tried to be scary in a long time...

I have a morbid sense of curiosity, and some of his films are quite disturbing and uncomfortable, but uniquely fascinating in an unconventional sort of way. Leave it to Miike to push those boundaries, man.

Most Asian horror is like that with me, though. I love them because they are more realistically horrifying than any other teenager slasher flick we have here.

I found "Family Remains" to be more sad than anything, because it has that Flowers in the Attic-quality of the kids being hidden away in the walls, forgotten, having to resort to the only things they can do to survive, etc. But like I said, I tend to find the most realistic features of human behavior to be the most scariest thing of all. Only two episodes featured that on SPN; "The Benders" and "Family Remains."

I'm pretty surprised Supernatural has never scared me – "black magic" types of things usually give me the heebie-jeebies guaranteed, but somehow they've never gone far enough down that road. The friend who introduced me to it, however, can't watch the earlier seasons because they're too scary, apparently.

Even Misha has said several times that the show has given him nightmares. So, I guess some people are more easily affected by the paranormal-stuff than others? For me I'm just immune. And I agree, the show hasn't gone down that frightening territory to really get to me (i.e. that adrenaline rush I love when watching horror films).
