And the Harry Potter fandom rises from the ashes.
New Harry Potter spin-off film series in the works.
Warner Bros. announced on 12th September 2013 that J.K. Rowling would be making her screenwriting debut with 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them', the first in a new film series which is part of their expanded creative partnership with J.K. Rowling. The films will be inspired by Harry Potter’s Hogwarts textbook of the same name, and will feature the book’s fictitious author, Newt Scamander.I'm honestly surprised and quite taken aback, since this news came so suddenly I'm not sure how my emotions are at the moment. I'm excited for the possibilities of these new films, from the new characters being introduced to the possibility of familiar faces reappearing, and curious of the outcome, since JKR seems to be doing this on her own terms. I know many fans were divided on how the previous movies were made, how things were changed, but this seems to be new material that she has control over. And making a screenwriting debut, no less! So this makes me excited for what she has in store and how it'll be done.

I read somewhere that JK has stated that the movie is going to be based roughly eighty years before Harry's adventures begin and in New York. Which I think works as it gives her breathing room to tell the story without worrying about any sort of canon contradictions :)
I wonder will the main plot of the film involve him hunting down and interacting with the magical creatures that he'll ultimately write about in his books. It would be pretty neat if he ended up coming into contact with a mythological creature (by wizarding world standards) like The Crumple-Horned Snorkack. It would be a subtle connection to his future grand daughter in law ;)
Sorry for the rambling response.

This is what makes me excited, because there's more freedom and a chance to show something new of a universe we're already versed in without the worrying of the nitpicking about whether or not it's staying true to canon text. JKR has all the extensive knowledge and things that we don't know about this world and the people in it, so anything goes. :D

Oh god, yes! And throughout the years traveling around the world in search of these magical and fantastical creatures, documenting his findings. Now this just makes me even more pumped for what might be happening with these films and how the storytelling will happen. Furthermore, I wonder if the story will involve it being told via flashbacks, thus giving us a chance to see familiar faces (i.e. Luna, for example) because of these connections and whatnot. The possibilities are endless.
And no, it's alright, ramble away! ;)

Ooh yes that would be fun! Perhaps the film could even start in the present day shortly after Luna's wedding to his grandson. She could find his journal or something and that is then how we find ourselves seventy or eighty years in the past in New York.
I'm pretty excited for this now! With JK Rowling herself at the helm I think it is going to be pretty awesome :D

JKR said herself she is protective of this character, never mind the world she created, so if she has this plan on showing us more of how extended this world is I'm all in.
