Game of Thrones: "And Now His Watch Is Ended" Episode Review
Game of Thrones 3.04 "And Now His Watch Is Ended"
This episode was great, but what made it phenomenal were those final minutes.
Seriously, I legitimately teared up because of how happy I was on how it all went down. It was everything I hoped it would be, from the "a dragon is no slave" line to her basically laying the smackdown on the slave master and commanding the Unsullied to kill their masters and to free all the other slaves. I have always loved Daenerys, but this scene, this moment, is when you realize her true potential. She had cleverly devised a plan silently and secretively, and once the trade had been done she turned the tables around and managed to get her army, free the slaves, destroy the slaver city and walk out of there with her Khalasar, the Unsullied, and her faithful followers behind her.
Honestly, gifs don't do justice to how amazing this scene is, just watch:
Allow me to squee, okay? JUST.

CAPSLOCK IS RELEVANT BECAUSE I'M STILL HAVING GOOSEBUMPS FROM THAT SCENE. I HAVE REWATCHED IT MANY TIMES NOW AND IT GETS ME EVERY SINGLE TIME. I KNEW IT HAPPENED IN THE BOOKS BUT JUST SEEING IT PLAYED OUT ON THE SHOW, THE MUSIC, HER SPEAKING VALYRIAN, COMMANDING THE UNSULLIED AND THEN FREEING THEM AND THEM WILLINGLY FOLLOWING HER AS HER ARMY. AND JUST HER THROWING DOWN THE SLAVER WHIP LIKE A MOTHERFUCKING MIC DROP AND THE UNSULLIED WERE WALKING OVER IT AS THEY HEAD OUT OF THE DESTROYED CITY. JUST. OMG.
ALL THE HEARTS AND STARS IN MY EYES RIGHT NOW. MY KHALEESI GETS SHIT DONE.
Oh, there were other things that happened in this episode too that I liked (;p) I love seeing the Tyrells, definitely love seeing Margaery taking charge, plus seeing Cersei getting really defensive and not liking what she's seeing. But in a sense I gather it's because she wants to not only be adored by the people as Margaery is effortlessly making it so for herself, but also that she's controlling Joffrey in a manner that she wished she did (as pointed out by Tywin.) I also loved seeing the scenes with Margaery and Sansa, mostly because I want them to be friends and sisters and for Sansa to be protected. If there is any changes I want to show to make from the books, is for Sansa to get that protection she needs from the Tyrells so she can stay the fuck away from Littlefinger. Just saying.
And then there's Jaime and Brienne, her coming to his defense and all of that, and of course we're seeing the true colors of Ramsay Bolton as he basically led Theon to believe that he was actually helping him. I have to say, that was a great way of introducing his character, and something for the unaware audiences who don't know who Ramsay's character is, oh boy, y'all are gonna be in for a rude awakening when you learn more about him.
But just yeah, I'm still winding down from my fierce Khaleesi. Still not over it, tbh, and probably never will be. The most epic scene of the series, right next to Viserys getting his "golden crown" and the birth of Dany's dragons.
TL;DR: BOW DOWN TO YOUR KHALEESI, FUTURE QUEEN OF WESTEROS.
If I were to convert someone into watching the show, this would be one of the scenes to do it. In fact, even if you haven't watched Game of Thrones I highly suggest watching the clip posted to not only see how fucking amazing Daenerys is as a character in her own right, but to see how well-done the scene is overall. The show itself goes on and off on how they justly adapt scenes from the books (sometimes they change things and not for the better), but it's moments like this that really demonstrates that sometimes when they get it right, they get it right. I've seen people say that even though knowing what happens from the books, just watching it happen on the screen gave them chills, and I concur with this sentiment.

Of course, during the whole thing, I kept thinking to myself, "If Khal Drogo could see her now, he'd be so fucking proud of her." Which then made me sad. :( But then I got happy again because DANY BEING A BAMF, FREEING SLAVES AND BURNING DOWN CITIES WITH HER DRAGONS FUCK YEAH.

DRACARYS.

Seriously though, her arc is perhaps one of my favorites because of how much she's grown. She went from being timid and submissive to standing up for herself and gaining a sense of inner strength and understanding that she is much more than what she originally thought she was from the beginning. She can become someone and she's doing just that. I just love her so much. ♥

All the Dany stanning right now makes me happy, as well. :)

And also, the score for that part was epic. I can't wait for the season 3 soundtrack.

Yes, she knew exactly what she was going to do from the second she walked into that city and she executed it perfectly.
