Say hello to your friends...

Okay, I totally DID NOT just intentionally search for The Babysitter's Club and watched some clips from them even though it's true and I TOTALLY did. That's the beauty about YouTube, despite the copyright hoopla, you get a chance to look for childhood favorites. The BSC was one of those favorites of mine growing up; the books, the television series and the movie. There are only a few clips from the series plus the actual Christmas episode, but it just brings back memories. I mean, it's SO 90s! The fashion, the music, the HAIR...just, OMG. I know, it wasn't a perfect adaptation of the books nor was the acting even that great, but dude! C'mon! That's my childhood right there. I just wished they had all the episodes on DVD already.

It actually makes me nostalgic for old school Disney Channel. And I'm not talking about like several years ago, I'm talking like really, really old school. You know, the late 80s/early 90s, back in the day where Disney actually showed a variety of things instead of the same crap over and over again.

In any event, I may just have to dig around to find my old VHS tape of it, or watch the BSC movie again.

I remember watching BSC, Flash Forward (awesome), and Ready or Not, which was so angsty but so great! And Space Cases on Nickelodeon, fuck yeah.

I remember so much from my childhood like the ones you said above, along with The Torkelsons, Ocean Girl, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Eerie Indiana, Salute Your Shorts, The Adventures of Pete and Pete, Clarissa Explains It All....man. Now I'm getting all nostalgic again. Sometimes I wonder why don't they have children's shows like that anymore.

[identity profile] valiant.livejournal.com 2008-01-13 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Hells yes! And ROUNDHOUSE. I remember the Dad in the chair zooming around! I forgot about Ocean Girl totally, but I was always extremely enchanted by it. And I liked The Torkelsons' spin-off more than the original... I have S1 of Clarissa Explains It All on DVD, haha, and it is pretty much hilarious. Takes me back! I watched Ren and Stimpy, too, and my mom and I will still sing all the songs from it word-for-word. None of my friends were allowed to watch that though.

I baby-sit a lot, so I watch a lot of Nick and Disney and Cartoon Network with kids, and I have to say I do like a few shows that are on right now. I always like SpongeBob Squarepants, Drake & Josh, and The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. My Gym Partner's a Monkey is cute sometimes too. I really hate Ed, Edd, and Eddy, though. It's kind of funny to realize that in the future, these kids will be going, "OH MAN, REMEMBER BILLY AND MANDY? THAT SHOW WAS SO AWESOME."

Hee, I have Clarissa S1 on DVD as well. Ah, the memories. I wanted to be JUST like her, too. I have Ocean Girl on DVD too, but I have to still see season four which didn't air on Disney or in the States, apparently. Grrr.

Oh yeah, Drake & Josh is definitely hilarious (and we do get some boy/boy kissing on that show, too if like, only for long second or something). I like that, and even Hannah Montana and Life With Derek at times. I do think it's funny though, because here we are reliving our old childhood shows but the kids today are going to be doing the same things years from now. And I'm betting our parents did the same thing, thinking "whatever happened to MY shows?" when we were growing up. Differing of generations, I guess.

It seems we're of the same mind today. I've been youtubing my childhood this afternoon LOL.

I wasn't a huge fan of the movie, I think I only saw it once, but I remember having a ton of the BSC books lol.

[identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com 2008-01-13 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
We had nearly every single BSC book there was, too. That along with The Boxcar Children. Ah, childhood, how much I love and miss thee.

Oh yes! I remember the Boxcar Children! wow.

I love the books and the movie. I may have one episode of the TV show (A Night To Remember?) or two (I forget the second's title.. had to do with Stacey though.. I just remembered I picked it up last year when I was doing some volunteering at a thrift store), but as I didn't have the Disney channel until later in life, I didn't get too obsessed over them.

It's kind of interesting rewatching the show NOW because it was so low-budget and cheesy and LOLarious. But it's still part of my childhood that I can't help but love it anyway.

I loved the books (though gave them away to my little cousin who'd become so obsessed recently -- like passing a torch, if you will) and loved the movie as well. It's like, BSC was my beginning fandom before I knew what fandom was. It's kind of awesome thinking about it like that. Heh. :D

That's me and Ghostwriter :D

PS. I still have all my BSC books. I even have book #90 (Welcome to the BSC, Abby) autographed by Ann M. Martin :D

Dude, that's awesome! Also, awww, Ghostwriter. This day is just bringing back the memories, isn't it? XD

OMG! This post really brought back a lot of memories for me. I remember when I was in elementary school and I read all the BSC books. I loved them. I might have to go check them out cuz I can't remember any of the characters now. I think there was a Dawn, Claudia, and I can't think of any of the others. Damn my memory! haha

[identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
There's Kristy, Dawn, Claudia, Mallory, Stacey, Mary-Anne, Jessi, and then later Abby. /nerd-mode

It's been a while since I've read the books myself, having given them away to family, but I do remember some things. Not a whole lot though. It's been forever.

We should start reading the series again and then have discussions on each book. HAHA It would bring back memories. Ok, I know. I'm a nerd. :D

Um, that movie is amazing. My friend has the VHS and I'm plotting my elaborate theft of it.

[identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com 2008-01-14 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
I have the movie on VHS somewhere, but I'd rather buy it on DVD because knowing my viewing habits back in the day I probably wore it all down. Heh.

I just want the series on DVD, dammit. *pouts* Why can't these things be licensed properly for us fans?

[identity profile] jirucloud.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
hahaha! BSC had piece of every market then... and I watched and read them all the time! OMG! Favourite?? STACY!! hahaha... and Claudia's "enerjoy"??? remember it? Or--- Dawn and that bowl of seeds that she was eating at that restaurant? ftw?

I... don't know... I remember Even Stevens and Lizzie McGuire... but before that? I didn't have cable, lol!

hahaha... have fun with it and be sure to tell me all about it!!!

[identity profile] rogueslayer452.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
I'm trying to relocate my old VHS tapes of the episodes, but the movie I have and still LOVE. Ah, childhood memories.

Oh man, Even Stevens. I consider that not too long ago, actually, but it's still memories due to Shia being all grown up. I had Disney Channel when I was growing up and remember that they used to have GOOD things airing -- you know, like children shows in the morning, teen shows in the afternoon, a wide variety of movies in the evening(of the non-Disney variety), followed by old school shows (like Zorro and 30s/40s/50s cartoons) in the late-late evening. But now Disney is just too....comerical and toolish. I just wish they'd return to those days, that's all.
