Yeah, I mostly focused on the "cancelling" of celebrities, but this happens a lot with just, y'know, people online in general, and it's usually targeted towards those who are younger or are genuinely ignorant because they're less informed than others. This whole mindset of "you must be 'woke' at all times otherwise you're a terrible person" is really horrible, because that's...not how life works. At all. It's a holier-than-thou attitude so the person feels better about themselves, and that can be said for most attacks online in general because anonymity allows people to be assholes without much IRL consequence.
Another thing I don't like is the lack of second chances; sometimes these are warranted
Exactly. The way "cancel culture" operates it seems like second changes don't exist. If someone makes a mistake, no matter how big or small, they're done. Which, again, isn't how real life works. Humans are flawed, we make mistakes, sometimes we fuck up badly, we unintentionally hurt people with our actions or behaviors, and while those individuals who were affected don't have to forgive us for what we've done, that shouldn't mean we shouldn't try to better ourselves so it doesn't happen again, especially if we're truly remorseful once we understand what we did wrong.
(and that's the thing because some people honestly don't understand what they did wrong or offensive, and being accused and harassed by strangers online, often with no explanation whatsoever other than "you're a terrible horrible person" is honestly very terrifying.)
I manage to try to stay out of those kinds of spaces and dramas, to be honest. I stay in my own little corner of things.
