I kinda feel like Hollywood is going, "hey, these comedy guys are doing horror, why not jump on that bandwagon" and thought they could just have some random comedian do a horror movie when that's not really how it works. People like Jordan Peele and John Krasinski made it work because they understand and respect the horror genre and were able to utilize it to tell good stories. Having someone who doesn't is going to miss the point entirely because, as you said, they'll end up doing the typical horror tropes that is boring and outdated. I mean, the reboot idea was bad enough, but this kind of possibility makes it way worse.
Plus, I just don't trust any supposed comedian in general who whines and complains about how comedy isn't funny anymore because they're not allowed to make offensive jokes.
