Lost Girl: "Groundhog Fae" Episode Review
Lost Girl 4.08 "Groundhog Fae"
THIS EPISODE WAS SUCH A GIFT I AM STILL LITERALLY SQUEEING ABOUT IT.
ALL MY OTPS KISSING MORE THAN ONCE.
BO/TAMSIN. INITIATED BY BOTH OF THEM ON NUMEROUS MOMENTS.
KENZI/HALE. ALL THE KISSING SESSIONS AND TENDERNESS AND THEY ACTUALLY GOT IT ON (happened off-screen but whatevs)
Honestly, this episode felt like a good piece of fanfiction come to life in the best possible way. A groundhog day-ish type of Christmas episode that had various characters either completely drunk or smashed (Trick), bonding while drunk (Lauren, Dyson and Vex), or completely and utterly making out (Bo/Tamsin, Kenzi/Hale) while having the best time. Of course, that's not all that happened, granted. There had to be some conflict in the form of the Christmas Fae who basically ends up snatching people who harbor immense amount of guilt and turning them into sweets. Tamsin gets taken because of the guilt she has from her previous lives, and definitely because of the biggest one of her leading the Wanderer to Bo, which she has major rejects about.
And that, I think, is one of the greatest things about this episode. Tamsin appears to have her memories back, and she remembers what and how she managed to lead the Wanderer to Bo without really realizing it at the time. She had met the Wanderer during her prime as a Valkyrie, where he requested she look for someone, someone who she deemed unattainable based on his description. Which is the same exact description she gave Bo when she was kinda drunk at her place. It was both, I think, a declaration of her affections for Bo but also announcing that she had found who the Wanderer was looking for, and it wasn't fair. Because Bo shouldn't exist, and yet she did. And you see that regret in her face because of that.
Best part? Bo forgave her.
She forgave her and said that it didn't matter now, and that is the most beautiful thing ever. And after Bo confessed her own fears, Tamsin said that it was going to be okay and that she was there for her. A;LJSF;KASF;LASFD;LF;DKJ;AL STAHP YOU TWO I CAN'T ANYMORE BYE.
Another thing I loved was how Tamsin is basically back to being herself. During her time away she basically "grew up" and became more or less an adult from her rebirth, though without the cynical side to her from before because she has been raised by a loving family unit for once in all her lifetimes. And that is very significant and it's what I love about this whole arrangement. Not just with Tamsin being part of the family but also Vex in a sense and Bruce. CREATED FAMILY UNITS FOR LIFE, OKAY. BLESS THIS SHOW.
I also liked the bonding moments between Lauren, Dyson and Vex. Three people who you wouldn't think would want to be hanging out in the same room together, it also confirmed that there's no hostility between Lauren and Dyson anymore, which is good.
On the other hand, what pissed me off about that though was how Lauren and Dyson were arguing about giving a box addressed to Bo which she had addressed to herself during the time she cannot remember. The fact that Lauren felt it was necessary to not give her the box pissed me off. This isn't the first time that both she and Dyson did something like this, not trusting Bo even though they thought they was doing the right thing. I mean yes, Bo can be unpredictable and rash in her decisions at times which might get her into trouble, but this is something that was been plaguing her since she cannot remember what happened when she was taken. She obviously sent that box to herself for a reason and to hide it from her, let alone have the nerve to open it and see what was inside no less? That is just shitty, imo. At least Lauren at the decency to call Dyson to inquire of the contents of the box first instead of thinking about hiding it herself, which I guess can be chalked up to both of them caring about Bo that they had to have such a debate in the first place, but it's still a shit move to do (and I get the feeling that it wasn't even about the box but about their feelings for Bo and the situation she's in, that they're all in, but nonetheless it didn't lessen the fact that more people were hiding things from Bo again after she has been dicked around so much most of her life from many things.) Thankfully, even after all that was argued and debated about over the damn box, Kenzi was the one to find it and finally give it to her so she can do just that. Which, after she had just admitted out loud and to herself her own fears, she can move forward in her journey in figuring out what has happened to her.
So yeah, those are my thoughts. Overall, it was a really good episode and I can't wait to see what happens next.
