the more I think about it, the more dissatisfied I am with how the gods were used in this episode. Not from any meta POV about Christianity wiping out other religions, but just from the story internal POV.

I completely agree with you. It just wasn't handled well and was just a plot device for the sake of the episode. I get it was Kripke's way of homage to American Gods just, done in a poor manner to get the to Gabriel and Lucifer stuff, I think. Some of what was said with the other gods in the episode seemed off, especially about the different Creations and Apocalypses stuff because, from my own views about the many world religions, all religions and religious figures have particular beginnings and interpretations about how the universe came to be, and even though the show has used many different folklores and mythologies from other religions, this was a bit of a stretch to connect all that together and it just didn't make any sense.

I don't know I'm making sense with this, but I think they were kind of sloppy with trying to rip off the American Gods concept and it just didn't mesh well. In fact, it made things a bit more confusing. Idk
