I wondered about this in 5x13, since the boys were trying to use Castiel's knife against Anna. At the time, I just assumed that they had it because maybe it could do some physical damage to her, even if it couldn't kill her. But now, I just don't know. I hope that Dean looking at Zachariah as he killed him is significant, that there's going to be some explanation of how he could do that and kill Zach. Still, I keep coming back to the fact that Sam was clearly also trying to kill Zach. Did Sam think he could with that sword, even though he was human? Or was he just trying to distract Zach so Dean could do it? And why did Dean think he could do it? Granted, he never heard Uriel's line, but if humans couldn't kill angels, why would Cas give them the swords? Ack, it makes my head hurt.
